Hi Guys,
I'm not clear on how to attach these bumpers. A backing plate is made and
attached to the rubber bumpers with 4412 flush rivets but the rivets are
concentrated on the inbord side with just 3 outboard. I guess I can use
some adhesive. Also, the backing plate ( bumper assy) is attached inboard
with the AN3 bolts of the FL-212s but only 1 3/16 bolt is located outboard.
I'm thinking that this bolt could be located further outboard, better
securing the assy ...? And no mention of a nutplate for this bolt.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks
Clay
It's been a while but I think there's nutplates formed into the bumpers.

No, no nutplates or metal inbedded into my bumpers like you would expect ...
and rivets didn't hold so I used 1" tapered sheet metal screws and a
nutplate installed in the backing plate for the single AN3 bolt. This seems
to work ok.
Thanks

[rebel-builders] Amphib nose bumpers

Sounds like you have those "new" hollow rubber moulded bumpers... not the
old multi-layered foam on a wood back board like most have.

I couldn't make heads or tails out of them on how MAM expected them to be
mounted... and no manual update... so I just stole the old set off the
damaged floats I have and put them on the new set I built to speed the
process.

I also have the new hollow bumpers. Stephane at Murphy said to just
Proseal them on. I'm skeptical that this will hold them over time.
Haven't decided how to attach them yet. There is not very much surface
area around the lip.

[rebel-builders] Amphib nose bumpers

Post by robert » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:37 pm

There's an adhesive that I found at the local automotive store that's used to install windshields that I used to "glue" my amphib bumpers on. Worked GREAT. Will look up the exact name of it and post same after I get home from work. Cheers, Bob

[rebel-builders] Amphib nose bumpers

Post by Clay Smith » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:37 pm

I had to force the slightly twisted bumpers out or in to the backing plate
edges and used 15 #8 x 1" course thread, tappered head screws to hold it in
place while the sealant set. Seems to be good ... but I've only completed 1
of the 4.
I am interested in knowing of a better adhesive.

[rebel-builders] Amphib nose bumpers

Post by Bob Andrews » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:37 pm

Eric,

I used a 3M product called WINDO-WELD 08609. Any overage comes off real
easy just rubbing it with your thumb after it dries. Got it at the auto
parts house in town... worked pretty good for me.

Cheers, Bob

[rebel-builders] Amphib nose bumpers

Post by Rebflyer » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:37 pm

Hi all,
Has anyone downloaded pics of the brake modification recommended for
amphibs? I think I see where the short coming of the system is and I would like to
see what others have done and what the results were.
So before you all ask, I think it is a leverage problem. I have seen a
similar problem on a velocity repaired by the change of the leverage arms.
With that, if you have done a mod and have sent pics, where are they ? I've
just spent about 20 min looking in the files and I guess I haven't been to
the right spot.
Aside to that, I'm back on the water for the season and smiling
Man it sure was worth the effort!!!
