Door Latch

Post by Jim Cole » Sun Feb 19, 2012 11:26 am

Hi Ken, great to see your Rebel on Sunday and yes your Subaru is certainly
very quite and smooth - sounded great when you left.

I can't remember where you picked up your door locks?

Thanks

Hi Jean
I think full lengths or half lengths of corner wrap are fine. Whatever
is easiest. In most places I found that full lengths were easier than
making an extra joint at a bulkhead but I really don't think it matters
back in the tailcone.
I think you are OK to rivet the floor and corner wraps as you work
forward. Others have mentioned putting in the solid aluminum fuel lines
first if you want those below the floor. Just don't put any rubber hose
under the floor. You might want to plan any control pulleys or battery
and ELT mounts that you want back there as well.

Hello

I am ready to fit the inside corner wrap in the tail cone section. Manual
say to fit a corner wrap between bulkhead "C" and "D" an then continu
up to bulkhead "A". That mean half corner wrap between C and D and then a
complete one between C and A. Is my understanding OK?

The manual do not say a word about riveting that section... In my logic, I
should rivet everything except at A and E bulkhead... is it ok? ( I
know I should probably call the guy who my inspection before close the
floor....)

Thanks again

Jesse Jenks

door latch

Post by Jesse Jenks » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:26 pm

Hi guys,
I am designing the gull wing doors on mt Rebel. Can someone tell me if one latch at the bottom of the door will be enough? I would use a cam type latch like on a camper shell. Plan B would be to have central handle and a rod to each side of the door like a J-3. Just to be clear though, I will have a one piece door hinged at the top.
Thanks.
Jesse

Hey Guys

Very nice panel !!!!!!

I purchased my Rebel from my EAA Chapter which we had built over the last
ten years. It came with some brake issues which I have rectified. I just
recently competed the 25 hour Transport Canada requirements and my 10 hour
check out ( tail wheel ) for my insurance. We haven't had a lot of good
weather lately, so I haven't flown in over a month! I just took my panel
apart yesterday to install a intercom , it was set up to use the built in
intercom of the radio ( ICOM200) which did not work well. I just installed a
oil filter adapter and a oil sump heater. I hope to rack up the hours this
year and bring the plane home next winter to finish the interior and paint
( I have all the plastic panels ) .

My plane was built with the windows hinged a the top, I want to change them
back to original but I am not sure about the latching system, ( how you
open the door/window from the outside) If some one can explain it or has any
photos that would be great!

I am having problems posting a message on the web site, not sure of the
address, so I hope this reply works.

Thanks

Hi Kevin It's good to hear about another rebel flying congradulations. I
checked that plane and another out about 5 years ago at a fly in airshow
they had. If you got the builders manual with the plane there's actually
pretty clear instructions for that part. Only the pilots window opens from
the outside you have to reach across to open the passenger side window.
Once the window is folded down you just reach inside to pull the door latch
wire that runs from the front to the back of the door.
