Rebel instrument panel
Rebel instrument panel
All,
I would like to make a mock-up of the Rebel instrument panel, but since I have not yet purchased the fuselage kit, I don't know the size of the panel(s).
If someone could post for me the measurements (height x width) of each of the 3 panel sections that make up the full panel, I would sure appreciate it.
Not long ago someone suggested builders update the others on the list as to their progress, so I thought I would post this update on Rebel #687:
I have been purchasing the individual kits and began work in February 1999. To date I have completed the tail kit, the right wing (tank pressure tested OK after 1 leak found & sealed), and I have completed the left wing to the point that I am ready to begin sealing the fuel tank on it.
However I have tentatively taken a temporary job overseas which will require putting #687on hold for a year, so I anticipate I will be unsubscribing from this list shortly. I'm told the part of Europe (Kosovo) I'm headed to has limited internet access. I thought that one thing I might do over there was to build the panel mockup to help pass the time.
While I am rambling I would like to thank all on this list who have helped me with tips and advice. It has made things much easier.

Roger, took a slow walk to the shop and got the following for you!
The unmolested straight rectangular panel (vs the domed thing!) is 8 " high Over All (7 3/4" of it's flat + 1/8" rad top & bottom). The main center section is 26" wide. The two side panels are 9 3/4" wide. IF you are moving your firewall back 3", following the MAM O-320 installation instructions, the side panel sections get cut down by 2 " so will only be 7 3/4" wide.
Don't forget when laying out switches etc, that on the side panels there is a 5/8" tube (the brace tube guys have talked about lately!) mounted to the inner bottom flange of the side panels for about 4 or 5"'s from the bend transition to the center panel, so don't get stuff too close to the bottom edge of your panel.
Also, most add a 2" to 2 1/2" extension below the main panel to mount the throttle, mixture, carb heat, cig lighter, etc to (similar to mine as shown on our website. In the services section click on instrument panels to view).
Keep your head down when you get across the ocean and take care,

Hi Roger,
I imagine the factory will sell you just the
instrument panel if you arrange it with them a head of
time.

Wayne,
Thanks for the dimensions. I have copied the photo off your website that you speak of, and will keep the head down.
Roger.
PS-sorry that my message got posted twice. My fault.

Roger, just thought I'd point out that you are still welcome to have an account on the archive site... this would allow you to read messages and even post to the list without being subscribed to the list. This way if you did have a chance to get on the net you could post any questions you may have without worrying about large amounts of e-mail building up.

Rebel Instrument Panel
All,
Can anyone advise me what the accepted distance is between throttle and
mixture controls, center to center? I don't have access to an aircraft at the
moment to take a measurement so thought I would ask. I did not want to get
them so close together that operating one would interfere with the other, yet
I don't want to get them to far apart and waste panel space.
Thanks for the help,

Rebel Instrument Panel
Hi Roger,
Just drilled the holes for the throttle and prop in out Moose panel a few
days ago. (M-14, no mixture) I recall we placed them on 2.5" centers. I will
verify tomorrow at the shop and re-email if different. We did a little mock
up and found the distance we thought ... not too close ... not too far.
Later,
Don B

Rebel instrument panel
I am the third owner of Rebel kit #719R .The wings are completed, tail complete, fuselage completed
up to the instrument panel. Did NOT install instrument panel. I noticed it was an ELITE panel, (rounded on top). The ELITE panel was shipped in the orig. kit due to the fact that the orig. owner had intended to outfit the Rebel with the Rotec 7cyl. radial engine.
I plan on installing a conventional opposed engine. I wish to fabricate a standard Rebel instr. panel out of 6061. It would seem I could do so with just two measurements. The height of the panel, excluding the channel on the bottom, and the width of the center section of panel. Or should I just order one from Murphy and cease building for two weeks? Any help would be appreciated. Cris 719R

Hello,
I remade own instrument panel and built it with an additional 2 1/2" of
height to accomodate switches and control cables. I'll try to post a pic on
the files.
