Garry, I don't pause with mine, but not to say that a pause wouldn't help.
Out of habit, I, too, tend to use shorter, faster strokes, which just means
it takes more. I usually take about 20 to 25 these days. Could also be that
my seals are not as tight anymore. I don't think the mounting height has
much to do with it.

Thanks Walter. With about 2 feet of air in the line(not pressurized
side) it takes about 21 full slow strokes to cycle the gear right now. I
suspect at least some strokes are taken up compressing the air. Will see
when I have experimented with tilting the nose up for a while to get the
air to migrate forward. That should be easy enough for me - except the
waiting part.....

hi gary 15-17 strokes pause at the top to allow the pump to fill up-
little slower when cold, ATF is thicker--100 psi lock up bleed down in
1-2 hrs not leaks just internal bypass at o rings

IT TAKES ABOUT 16 PUMPS ON MINE.
YOUR FILLING A 1 1/2" PUMP CHAMBER THROUGH A 1/4" HOLE WITH A CHECK BALL IN
IT.
THE LITTLE PAUSE HELPS IT TO MOVE THE GEAR WITH LESS STROKES.
THE OTHER WAY IS AN ELECTRIC PUMP WITH THE HAND PUMP AS BACKUP.
WEIGHS ABOUT 5LBS AND TAKES 25 SECONDS TO DEPLOY APROX.
JUST NEED THE EXTRA CHECK VALVE.
THINK I PAID ABOUT 285 FOR THE PUMP.

Hi Cec,

How do you manage the electric pump? Do you have overpressure cutoffs?
Do you simply use it with a spring loaded switch and pump up to about
100 psi??

the pressure goes up to about 300psi and pump stops.
must add.
Im not using the factory lines.
using the csa aproved air lines for transport trucks.
2 years now, and 5-8 years for Carman Titus.
very resonable and redaly availably any where.
I can get 250 - 300 out of the hand pump if I lean on it.

How do you manage the electric pump? Do you have overpressure cutoffs?
Do you simply use it with a spring loaded switch and pump up to about
100 psi??

Garry, I don't pause with mine, but not to say that a pause wouldn't
help.
Out of habit, I, too, tend to use shorter, faster strokes, which just
means
it takes more. I usually take about 20 to 25 these days. Could also be
that
my seals are not as tight anymore. I don't think the mounting height
has
much to do with it.

Being a classic type A, I seem to want to pump quickly on the amphibs
to
cycle them but find I need to pause at the top of the stroke to allow a
1/2 second or so for the pump to fill itself. Does anyone else have
this
phenom or does it sound like I have an restriction? Might it be because
the reservoir is mounted too low (test situation - not in plane)?

Hello Cecil I believe that I'm using the same lines on my floats and
they're only aproved to 200 or 250 psi. If possible you might consider
lowering the shut off pressure on your punp. The pressure reqired to keep
the gear locked is very low. Also if you lower the electric pump pressure
you can test the system at more than the normal working pressure using the
hand pump. this ensures that if a line is going to blow it will most likely
happen during testing on the ground instead of in the air.

Also note that Parker Parflex is rated at 425psi. so I don't know why
everyone changes from it.

There isn't anything in the MAM floats that require more than 50 to 75psi to
move and 100 to 125 psi is more than sufficient to keep the nose wheels from
collapsing if you push the airplane backwards.

The manual pump quickly lets you know you've blow a line...U can then
reverse the selector and then pump the gear back into the position you
started from....with the remaining fluid. Electric pump blowing a line mid
cycle... well you're stuck landing in what ever configuration it's left you
in because all your fluid is gone.
