[rebel-builders] Weatherstripping Rebel Door

Post by Wayne G. O'Shea » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:11 pm

Have never had any problem getting it at Canadian Tire. Open cell... closed
cell and CYP has a nice double lip rubber seal that has worked well. I just
looked at mine an hour ago. It's open cell foam and been on there since
1995. Still doing it's job and paint on every door frame rivet still.

Remember those RV4412's heads are no where near as strong as the domed
1410's. I use them in as few a places as possible.

Hi Ken,

You wrote: "I have not found 1/16" weatherstripping anywhere though.
Well actually I have but it has adhesive on both sides..."

I used the 'Foam Sealing Tape' from Chief Aircraft. It is 1/16" thick and
adhesive backed on one side only. URL is:

Just FYI.

Damn. I just dimpled all around one side last night, wondering briefly
about the comparative strength. Lay in bed thinking I might just put
solids in there, and so now I guess I will order some and go that route.
Educational (Doh!) -- thanks, Wayne.

Well...
The Low Profile head is rated165 lb shear and 230 lb tension.
True the c.s. head is rated 155 lb shear and 205 lb tension.
The shear number is generally the important one for us so the c.s. is
94% the strength of the low profile dome head. There are some reports of
the c.s. heads separating prematurely but there are other claims that
the c.s. head adds shear strength.

Personally I would not give it a second thought. I believe the rivets
are fully interchangeable and both have more than adequate safety
factor. I'm pretty sure MAM has said the same thing but ask them if you
are concerned. With thin skins the rivets are not the weak link in most
cases. ie extra rivets are there to reduce tearout, not because that
much rivet strength is needed.

Sorry Ken... I don't care what the "data" is... I'm speaking from how many
heads I've seen come off of the 4412's vs 1410's..used in the exact same
locations.
