[rebel-builders] Rebel brakes

Post by Drew Dalgleish » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:10 pm

Hi Dave I ate too much a month ago at the proper time for thanksgiving :)
The murphy resevoir is a blow moulded POS that you're better off not owning
just fabricate your own something with about a pint capacity. By slave
cylinders I assume you mean wheel cylinders and not toe brake ( master )
cylinders. Either way I think with kit 009 you have Matco parts available
from Murphy or Matco.

Hi all: Hope you all didn't eat to much this week!
Guess I need to get to it.
In my kit 009 I'm missing the brake slave cylinders and the reservoir for
the brakes, can anyone tell me what I should look for? and where I might
find them? or maybe get from Murphy? Also what about dual brakes? what do I
need for this option?
Progress on 009 is now at drilling the FUS 5's for the landing gear bolts
for the spring gear?? Scared to drill!! Need to get it correct to say the
least. Have been moving along and now getting ready to start laying out the
controls for as much as I have done.
Is there any comments about instruments? TSO-D or NON TSO-D Does it really
matter in EXP?
Thanks to all.

Are the brake cylinders the same in the Rebel and Super Rebel? I have two
brake cylinders for the SR that I don't need.

I should say I have master cylinders that mount on the rudder pedals.

Dave;

Aircraft Spruce carries the Matco brake master cylinders on page 243.
1-877-477-7823
MC-4 external reservoir, $74.95 Spruce pn 06-11000
MC-5 built in reservoir, $81.75 Spruce pn 06-11150
They also carry most of the systems for production aircraft.

As Drew mentioned, 119R shipped at 1500 lb. gross and came with Matco
cylinders and brakes which were very different than the JDM wheels and
brakes. The later developed JDM uses the aluminum axles that are about
1.5" diameter and cast aluminum wheels. The Matco's were stamped
aluminum wheels with 3/4" steel axles. Several years ago MAM gave me a
good credit for the Matco's when I upgraded to JDM.

Unlike most folks I like the plastic reservoir from MAM beccause it is
transparent and I can see the fluid level. OTOH I like master cylinders
that have an integral reservoir even more and they save space on the
firewall.

I've mentioned these before, but I'll restate how happy I am with the tiny
little ACS A-600 reservoirs that mount right on the master cylinders. About
$12 a piece. No fluid lines from a remote mounted reservoir.
