[rebel-builders] building a Moose

Post by Dale Fultz » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:05 pm

Hi Scott,,
What part of States are you from?? In your questions are very open.
You don't say what engine you are using,, What size electrical system you
plan to use 14 or 24 volts???
Most of the moose kits include seat frames at least as far as I know...
What type of electric tabs are you speaking of --trim tabs ??? The tanks
that come completed from MAM are now supposed to be tested at the factory is
my understanding.. The windows are also supplied from MAM for a complete kit
unless they have changed.
When you ask the question of control cables if you are talking engine
controls that is up to you with the type of engine you have ,, if you are
talking the flight controls the cables are also included in the kit... Hope
this helps... Dale SR-033 N269DF

Hello there guys and gals,

My name is Scott Berry and I am located in the States. I am putting a list
together of all the items I need for the project of building a Moose. I
have a few questions though:

1. I went to Aircraft Spruce as MUM suggested and looked at the propellers
but I wasn't exactly sure what to get. I have looked at Go Fly a Moose but
the propeller Scott suggested there is not available from Aircraft Spruce
which is where I choose to do most of my shopping. Has there been any luck
with any other propellers?

** What engine are you using? If an M-14, then you can get several
different types of props from Jill or Carl at www.m-14p.com or look on EBay.
Though Aircraft Spruce has a ton of stuff, you will NEVER build any plane by
purchasing everything from only one source--or at least it is highly
unlikely.

2. Also as far as control cables what size should I get for these and what
gauges of wire are needed? I saw Aircraft Spruce had different sizes and
did not want to add this too my list until I was sure exactly what size I
would need.

** most likely 1/8" 7x19 cable if I recall correctly

3. On the note of the control cables do the control cables stretch while in

use?

** I haven't had a problem with that in 245 hours; maybe other builders did?
You can always put a turnbuckle in the system to account for any stretch

4. What models of electric tabs work best on the Moose or Rebel?

** You mean trim tabs? The Elevator trim tab as well as the motor are part
of the kit. If you want to do a custom rudder trim tab then you build it
yourself and get a servo from someone like the Ray Allen Company (I have a
spare one I'll sell you--email me at ted@i1ci.com if interested).

5. Has anyone tried an electric de-icer if so what make and model?

** To my knowledge, no builder has put any deice system on a Moose (yet).

6. What gauges of electric wire are required for the electrical system?

** Depends on the wire run length and current/voltage requirements. RG-400
for the GPS and coax stuff; probably 22 gauge for most other things.

7. Where do most of you builders get your seats?

** Seats are part of the kit. However, I've seen guys use modified Cessna
seats and other stuff. Mainly kit-std seats though.

8. How many fuel tanks have you seen that leak from MUM?

** I don't know a single builder that is flying (I don't know all of them,
but I've traded emails with a lot) that hasn't had several leaks. They
aren't stand-alone tanks--they are a wet-wing per se sealed by the builder
(or factory) using pro-seal.

9. Where or how do most of you get your windows made?

** Window vendor is www.lpaero.com but, I'm told, they won't sell direct to
an individual--only through Murphy.

Hope this helps...Ted Waltman

Hi Dale,

One more correction I was thinking the control cables for the flight
controls. You did answer my questions and I thank you much.

Interesting. I think I will try that and see how it works that's

interesting.

Hi Tom,

I am in Margie which is nine miles north of Big Falls which would be the
closest airport to hear. Yes it would be very fun to see your project
indeed. Please email me privately and let's see if we can't get together.
I am looking for the M14P but I would be very interested in seeing your
aircraft too.
