Ken's right on ! A bit of space between the channels will be needed
to pick up the rivets from the seat rails -- even if it does mean adding
another bracket, it's worth doing. .... and you definitely DO want to
rivet to the skins.
While you are in there, IF it's still open, it's a good idea to add
a couple of extra channels under the floor in the baggage area too -
it'll prevent dents later from suitcases ....
And a couple of extra small square tubes, running from the
large cross tube, forward to the firewall, will help stiffen up the
front end, and provide a platform for a sheet of .032 as a double
floor up front .... gets your heels up a bit, and feels a lot more
sturdy than just the outer skin. ;-)

Personally I would not bother doubling them if you are not going to
rivet to the skin. You might find that separating the second channel a
bit (space them apart) will make a better fit for the chair rails.

without doubling as per the original plans. Current plans call for
doublers on front floor channels as well as three extra channels. Do I
need to rivet the doublers to the skin or am I just as well off to just
rivet the doubler to the existing channel? The doubled channel will be
rivetted to the existing bracket for the current single channel in any
case.
