That is a very exciting looking PSRU. Nice and light! I think mine weighs
about 100 pounds. I really like the small depth. Mine makes the cowl look
too long. The offset is pretty small at 7.6 inches. Mine is 9 inches and I
came pretty close to needing a bump on the top of the cowl. The smaller the
offset between the input shaft (coupled to the engine crankshaft) and the
prop shaft the higher the engine will sit assuming you put the prop where
MAM intended it. There is a lot of debate about helical cut gears and spur
gears. I won't pretend to know what's better. I went with a helical gear
PSRU simply because of their common use on turboprops and excellent reports
from other users of the one I went with (Firewall Forward CAM-500).
Turboprops have to reduce from upwards of 40,000 RPM down to usable prop
speeds. For arguments on both sides of the debate have a look at the
following:

http://www.epi-eng.com/GBX-SpurGearRel.htm
Now don't get me started on the gears versus belts versus chains debate! :-)

I just did a google search for PSRU and found this web site. Having done
this several times before through the years, I don't recall this one before.
Anyone know anything about this company?

I don't know lots about the two gear types either. I'll look at your links. I have been told the standard (non-helical) is much noiser. Not sure that's an issue here or not when it's 4' in front of you. I too was a little concerned about the 7.6" offset. I'll have to do more measuring!

Yep. Noise is supposed to be one disadvantage of spur versus helical but I
think you are right about it probably not being an issue. My engine is
pretty loud with only 18 inches of exhaust and no mufflers. Combined with
wind and prop noise I doubt you'd be bothered by a bit more noise from the
PSRU. For my part, I can't discern anything from the PSRU when I'm in the
cockpit, even at low RPM.
