[rebel-builders] Flying time

Post by Robert Johnson » Sun Feb 19, 2012 11:56 am

Mike, I am no expert but I think just adjusting the droop on a flap will
only off center the stick as they will balance their position in the airflow
and do nothing to lift a heavy wing. The only logical solution I can think
off would be to either modify the trailing edge position of the fixed wing
tip or add a small trim tab on the rear of the tip of the heavy wing. Others
can pipe in with their thoughts. Bob J. Rebel 192/731.

Hi all,
Finally getting some time in my Elite this weekend. The wind finally quit
gusting around here for the time being anyway. Have about 3 hours logged
and got the landing down pretty well now. I can see the need for some
weight in the back seat to get that tail down, but able to make nice no
throttle landings as is.
Can I run the flaps in notch 1 beyond flap speed since they are actually
in the nuetral position at that point? Flaps at 0 is reflex.
Also looking at drooping a flap to get rid of a heavy wing. Does it help
to raise the opposite or should I just droop the heavy one?
Also added a trim tab to elevator to help with lack of offset. I been told
to mount it at 1/2 way point on rudder. I notice many certified planes
have this toward the bottom. Could it be more effective say inline with
the stab?
Thanks,
Mike Betti

Um I think he has separate flaps and ailerons Bob. If that's the case
drooping one flap should lift the heavy wing. How bad is it Mike? Fuel load
and passengers can make a noticable difference on a rebel.

Your right Drew: I must have been sleeping or only had Rebel on the brain.
(The result of a good Rebel builders meeting Sunday) I missed completely the
"Elite". Now I do agree drooping the flap will help the issue for a
particular airspeed. Bob J

Mike:

I'd be interested to know the position of your elevator in cruise flight.
On the floatplane, mine was distinctly "up". I put an 062 shim under the
rear stab attach brackets, and that cut the deflection by half. Think I'll
maybe try another at annual time.

We put an 1/8th" under Bob White's Al. Will let you know how it works, if I
ever get his stab/elevator back on, and will let you know in the spring.

Al,
My elevator looks like it is perfect level with stab in cruise.
