[rebel-builders] Stainless Rivets

Post by Ken » Sun Feb 19, 2012 11:56 am

Avinox are much stronger and much more expensive than the N style
stainless Pop rivet used by MAM but they do tend to retain the mandrel I
believe. I would say they are overkill but I do occasionally use them in
places.

Went looking for Stainless Rivets today.

Local supplier wants to sell me Avinox Stainless Rivets. OBE61 series.
He tells me they are the stainless equivalent to Avex (both are Textron
product).

Are these the stainless rivets I should be using for my firewall?

As usual thanks in advance.

my english give me a lots ot limits! Dale, what do you mean by (what ya Jean???)

Last year(or the one before) I asked MAM (Robin) about replacement for 3/16" s.s. rivets. He told me they were just standard POP rivets with
ss. mandrel. I ordered some from a local industrial supplier (an auto prts will be ok but probably more expensive) and they were exactly the
same as per MAM supply with the kit

Yes and another option for consideration might be plain steel pop rivets
if they are available locally. They have strength and fire resistance
and while they are more likely to rust, they are also less likely to
corrode any aluminum that they are inserted into. And primer/paint
sticks to them better than stainless...
