Gary you may have problems with the sky lights and the headliner MAM tells
you not to cut them till you have the liner so they will line up properly..

[rebel-builders] Headliner - MAMs and Others

Post by Robert Johnson » Sun Feb 19, 2012 11:52 am

Gary and others: The Rebel interior photos are from my Rebel 652. I just
added another photo (Rebel interiors or "new") for more detail. This is the
2" foam with fabric glued on. I don't see why this would not work with
skylights by tapering the openings, however may have to glue to roof around
skylight to keep in position. I will find out later when I get Rebel 192/731
to that stage as I am adding lots of skylights. The door/window latches are
simple lift up designs by knob on inside and button on the outside. The lock
merely swings the tab into a slot on the exterior push button shaft to
prevent movement. I only put the lock on the pilot side. Passenger/co-pilot
door/window can only be opened from inside. I do not have any detail
pictures of lock assembly but if the need is there, I could sketch out the
design from memory. Bob J

That is a nice photo and a nice job. Looks professional.
However, I have two questions of the photo.

First, I have 8 skylights in my Rebel and it seems that there
would be a lot of fitting to accommodate the skylights, preferably
having an angle or cone away from the skylight. I guess one could
hot wire cut cone shape openings for each skylight and make it
look just as nice. Looks as if you tried that a bit for the side
windows. I bet it is quiet in there.

Second questions is the door latch. I note a push button and a
key lock on the bottom of the wing fairing and latching mechanism
in the middle of the door frame. I am intrigued by what the mechanism
might be and how it works. Might you also post some pictures of
the door latch and explain how it works. I bet a lot of us are
scratching our heads about door latches for the top window (I am
nearly bald) and this might be useful to many of us.

Thank you (and a lot of others) for sharing hard gained knowledge.

Very nice job! It will probably my way... 3 questions:
1- have you prime the aluminium under the foam?
2- never had condensation between foam and aluminium
3- the foam is not glue to aluminium, just the strip keep it in place?

I should not have a problem as my skylights are small
in size and are centered in the middle of each section of
panel. I tried to take that into account by looking at
pictures of other installed MAM headliners.

Thanks for the heads up.

[rebel-builders] Headliner - MAMs and Others

Post by Gary Gustafson » Sun Feb 19, 2012 11:52 am

I am impressed with the headliner and I think that I
can make it work with my skylights by using a piece
of Velcro glued to the skin and a piece on the fabric.
I hope that it comes out as well as yours did. I think
it is impressive looking and practical for sound.

The door/window latches are a nice touch and simple
once you are given the idea. I think I can make that
work very nicely also. Thank you very much for your
ideas and allowing us to copy them.

Bob,

Could you give a source, brand name, or other information describing the
"...2" fire retardent flexible foam..." that you used in your headliner? It
looks quite good.

Thanks,

Hi Roger: The foam I used comes from a fabric store called "Fabric Land" .
It is a pale green in color and will not support combustion. If exposed to
an open flame it will shrivel up or shrink but will not continue to burn
when the flame is removed. There was no trade name I know of but I will
check with the store next time I pass. It is also available in various
thickness - 1/2", 1",2" and even 4". - More info to follow. Bob J
