[rebel-builders] Rebel-Wing stringers

Post by Jesse Jenks » Sun Feb 19, 2012 11:42 am

Keith,
There is no need for the stringers to extend past the tip. The reason that
the left wing LE stringers are cut 3/4 and the right only 3/32, is because
the reinforced LE root rib faces inboard on the left wing, and outboard on
the right. However you measure it, just make sure the inboard ends of all
the stringers on both wings will fit inside the root rib.

I am assembling the stringer to the Right wing and the
manual states to trim the stringers 3/32"for the six
stringers on the leading edge. Chapter 10.6.6

Then there is a note stating to trim the left wing LE
stringers by 3/4" and under that there is a diagram
showing 4 stringers behind the main spar offset by
3/4". Is this for both wings or just the left?

I already assembled the bottom skin with the stringers
flush to the edge before I realized that this diagram
may be for both wings. Is it alright (if needed) to
just cut 3/4" off of the on stringer or is it needed
to extend out the tip end for any reason?

Thak you,
Keith R661

[rebel-builders] Rebel-Wing stringers

Post by Keith Leitch » Sun Feb 19, 2012 11:42 am

Jesse,

Thank you. That is what I had figured was the
solution. I guess I was asking because of finding
other areas in the manual where I have followed it and
later needed to redo something due to not knowing what
lie ahead.

[rebel-builders] Rebel-Wing stringers

I hear you Keith,
I have found that the only way to avoid being misled by the manual is to
fully understand what your goal is for the part you are working on. How you
achieve that goal is up to your creativity, and the experience of others.
Have you checked out Roger Hoffman's site? Until Wayne produces a full
airframe CD, it's the best all-in-one photo resource.

I really really wish Murphy would just give us blueprints and scrap that POS
manual.

[rebel-builders] Rebel-Wing stringers

Post by Keith Leitch » Sun Feb 19, 2012 11:43 am

Jesse,

Yes, I do look at Roger Hoffmans site. I also look at
Wrayt's wing manual page but I have noticed that it
was done before the updated manual I am using. I
hartily agree that the manual could use a good swift
kick!! More pictures would help immensly. I have
restore cars and this is my first plane so there is
quite a learning curve. Heck, when I restored an old
Lotus Europa I barely used the manual at all since it
was all pretty much common sense to me since I have
worked on cars for years.

Thanks for the help,
Keith
