Wing cut-outs for fuel tanks.

Post by Bill Londry » Sun Feb 19, 2012 11:42 am

Can anyone tell me the exact location of the lines for the wing skin cut-outs for the wing tanks? I have e-mailed and phoned MAM with no reply in the past five days. I need to know the location of the lines parallel to the tank bulkheads for both the top and bottom skins. I don't find it very clear at all in the manual. It is shown in figure 10.10.12 section 0.10 Wing Assembly. The diagram doesn't show the line of rivet holes for the tank bulkheads as far as I can see. Does anyone have an approximate distance from the leading or trailing edge of the skin?

Bill
I'm away from my project and MAM so can't be specific, but I believe there
is no exact dimension because the rear tank bulkhead location will vary
slightly between builders. (Custom!! :) )

I would recommend that you make a side-view (cross section) sketch of the
tank skin + main skin +bulkhead overlap, including location of where the
rivets go. This will help you determine the main skin cut-out lines with
proper overlap of tank skins. Getting this right obviously is strongly
desired to not mess up the main skins, and the plan view (top and bottom)
is not adequate IMO to visualize the layering/overlap of these skins.
Also, IIRC, the layering is different on top and bottom, and also was
changed when the 1998 manual came out.
