[rebel-builders] Wing fairings

Mike..to keep the fairing from rubbing into the fus top all you need is a
strip of say 1/4" wide x 1/8" thick open cell foam stuck to the underside of
the fus edge of the fairing. You buy it in a roll at any home improvement
center for you house doors/windows. It will compress to the point you won't
even know it's under there...but it will be just enough to keep it off the
cabin roof. The side that is screwed needs nothing. You will probably need a
single screw on the fus side into the gap filler "box" area to keep the
fairing down tight. In the unfortunate event of a wing hit this one spot
will easily rip out before it causes any fus damage.

On the lower wing fairing the edge against the fus is bent up at 90* and the
other side is screwed to the wing. It has just enough curve in it that it
will stay up and not sag down. You can also put a strip of foam on the bent
up flange to keep it from rubbing the fus side. This fairing will also have
a single screw at the rear end into the gap filler "box" and is the only
spot a screw goes on the fus side of the fairing.

This foam, or even a closed cell foam is even more important on your leading
edge fairing that sits against the winshield....so it doesn't cut in to the
acrylic.

Wayne,
On an email you recently comented on, you mention that you add a piece of
weatherstriping to the wing fairings. Can you explain that a little more
in depth? So does the fairing stick up off the surface of the cabin on
top, but it is metal to metal on the wing? What about at the bottom
fairing verses the top piece?
Thanks,
Mike Betti
