[rebel-builders] Moose/SR dimension

Post by Mike Kimball » Sun Feb 19, 2012 11:34 am

Someone will probably beat me with the measurements but I'll stop by the
airport on my way home tonight and measure mine and reply tonight. Mine is
a Super Rebel. I believe the Moose gear legs raise the plane a bit higher
than the standard SR so hopefully someone with a Moose will measure as well.
I'll assume that you have waited to install your antenna(s). I'll give you
the vertical stabilizer height as well in case you've already installed
that.

Subject: [rebel-builders] Moose/SR dimension

Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone knows the distance from the
floor to the top of their Moose/SR fuselage near the
front at the tallest point? I am trying to figure out
if I can roll my SR fuselage into a standard shipping
container with the gear and wheels on. I don't have my
gear and wheels on yet is why I am asking...I am
debating shipping it on it's gear vs crating the
fuelage 'leg-less' and slipping the crate into the
container.

Thanks, -Jason

[rebel-builders] Moose/SR dimension

Hi Jason !

Sorry, can't help with the measurement.

Depending on how you're shipping, and the distance,
you might be better off to crate it well cushioned, legless.
I've seen a LOT of damage done from long shipments by road,
on the gear - there's a LOT of bouncing & shaking,
and anything that moves gets damaged !!

Even a rope resting on a flat surface can wear through !

[rebel-builders] Moose/SR dimension

Sorry I didn't get back to you until now but this is how my Super Rebel
measures:

Ground to cabin top: 86.5 inches
Ground to top of vertical stab: 84 inches
Ground to top of my comm antenna: 99 inches
Width of horizonal stab: 130 inches
Distance between outside of tires (stock 8.0 tires): 99 inches

I know that's more than you asked for but those measurements might be of
some use. Again, reminder, this is a Super Rebel. A Moose will sit a
little higher, especially if using bigger tires. Check the archives for
cautions about shipping in a container on it's gear. It's much better to
have the fuselage held rigid to the trailer or shipping truck bed and let
the shipping vehicle's suspension absorb all the potholes. Distance and
road conditions have to be considered.

Mike

Hi Mike. Thanks for that.

It will be going from the UK to Canada by sea. I have
found a company in the UK who specializes in moving
aircraft.
