[rebel-builders] Good radio etc...

LOL, I have a Terra radio and transponder, and for those that have flown
somewhere with me, I am sure they would agree with you.

But hey, instead of smashing it, send it to me. I might need some parts...

Walter

Referring to the transponder / radio posts: If you find a good Terra radio,
go
ahead and smash it with a hammer before it goes bad. At least it will never
get a chance to let you down. I wasted enough money trying to get NEW
ones (never installed, bought brand new, and then the company went away)
to buy a stack of something else ... which I did!

[rebel-builders] Good radio etc...

Actually, I bought a complete stack for my Bonanza back in ninety something.
By the time I finished the restoration, the radios which had been stored in
original packages in my climate controlled closet at home, were installed and
worked perfectly ... until fifteen minutes into the first flight when the digital
transponder failed. I put it on the bench and it worked fine .. the aircraft
wiring, antennas, harness, were also fine ... it still didn't work. I sent it off
and they "fixed it", saying that there was corrosion inside. By the time I got it
back, I had already installed a Garmin 320 (after months of waiting). The
Nav/GS, then went South, and finally the Comm went too ...intermittent with
no plausible excuse. I gave them away (except for the transponder sitting on
my garage bench) when I sold the Bonanza. I told the buyer that they
were "in there" but couldn't be relied on ... he installed used Kings using the
existing PS audio panel and Garmin txp and existing antennas and hasn't had
a problem since. When I boughjt a Varieze last year, I installed the poorly
stored Terra TXP and it seems to be working fine. If it quits I'll install it on my
downrigger and fish for bottom fish in the Gulf.
The moral is: If you buy it, install it immediately in case you need to invoke
the warranty! Finalize the panel after the first engine runup in the completed
airframe with the N-numbers attached, and the sign-off in hand, and the
aircraft pointed at the runway hold line ... unless you have an unproven auto
conversion, then use a handheld for the first two years.

[rebel-builders] Good radio etc...

I must be one of the lucky one. I have a Terra Nav with glide slope, Com,
And Transponder. They have been working fine for the last 18 years. They are
of the old style, with push buttons and the non-electrical digit display.

TH.
