Mike,
One big (although expensive) help is to use the swiveling eyeball firewall
penetrations. They provide fire seal, an additional cable sheath grip, and
allow firewall penetration at a step angle to minimize bending at that
point. It allows the cables to remain closer to the firewall and therefore
helps the bend radius at the bottom. The short MAM mount makes cable
routing difficult at best. One other help is the Vans plate that goes
between the carb and sump. It will require custom cables but can minimiz
e routing headaches. Vans can supply the cables as well. Give them a call
for a catalog if you do not have one.

Throttle / Mixture Cable Bracket

Supports Cables at Engine Attach

Van's now carries a complete line of throttle brackets with integral mixture
attach points for the Lycoming O-320 and

O-360 engines. These 4130 steel brackets are to be installed between the
carburetor and the engine sump. This simple

method only requires one additional carburetor gasket and we include it with
the units listed.

A system for installing either the throttle or mixture cable on the
200HP-IO-360 is also available. See below.

IT IS UP TO THE BUILDER TO DETERMINE THE SUITABILITY OF THIS ITEM TO HIS/HER
INSTALLATION.

VA-149-320-PC KIT THRTLE/MIX BRCKT/320 $ 18.00

VA-149-360-PC KIT THRTLE/MIX BRCKT/360 $ 18.00

IO-360 THROTTLE/MIX THROTTLE/MIX KIT $ 95.00

[rebel-builders] throttle mixture cables

Post by Ken » Sun Feb 19, 2012 11:34 am

At one time I thought this would be silly but maybe a 360* loop in the
cable is worth considering if all else fails. I put a 180* bend in my
throttle cable with about a 4 or 5 inch radius and the increase in
friction is not noticeable.

Hi all

How have people with firewall cut back routeed throttle and mixture cables,

there does not seem to be room to go straight then down then through
firewall while using a good amount of radius on bends

was thinking of going sideways along firewall then down to floor and back
around to pass through firewall near the floor

thanks for any help, pics would be great
