Allowable Gross Weight

In reading the Safety Bulletin 071095RB, I read the following about Gross Weight::
“According to regulations, certified aircraft are allowed an additional 5% of the stated gross weight when operating on floats. As we have tested the Rebel design exhaustively in wheel and float configurations, we have decided to apply the same rule to this aircraft. In the case of the Rebel this would mean an additional 80 lbs on top of the stated 1650 lb limit for a total of 1730 lbs.
Important Note: Early models of the Rebel which were rated at 1450 lbs gross, would be limited to an additional 5% of 1450 or 70 lbs for a total of 1520 lbs. This variance does not apply to Canadian Advanced Ultralights which are governed by Transport Canada’s TP 101.41.â€
