hi ken
i have the b&c crowbar overvolt protection item, but as Niagara airparts
does not sell their internal regulated alternator i now have the b&c unit
and need regulator, b&c have good unit but not cheap !! but it is very good,
with monitors for bus voltage as well, is this the unit you refer to that
you think is the best way to go

Excellant as an external regulator allows complete control of the
alternator and the simple additon of overvoltage protection. That is the
preferred way to do it IMO. Many guys use a automotive regulator.
Standard part VR166 for example at about $40. is shown in aeroelectric
Z-23 diagram. I'd personally favour a solid state one since they have
some built in temperature compensation.
Chrylser also used to use a cheap solid state unit through the 1970's.
The VR166 or equivalent is popular however. B&C sell the overvoltage
protector for about $35. which I'd recommend
Ken .
