[rebel-builders] FW: rod ends

Post by Ken » Sun Feb 19, 2012 10:53 am

Daryl obviously thinks you have what you need and even back in 1992
there were a few parts substitued from what the shipping list
specified. It's a tough call but I can understand him taking the
attitude that we should inventory what we got upon the kit arrival and
deal with shortages then. I don't understand why he would question
discrepancies backed up by your packing list when you need more than
shown on your list. I'd mail him a copy of your list and tell him that
is your reference and obviously the one the shipper used.

MAM has been excellant with me for large parts but the nuts and bolts
situation was so bad that I never even questioned them about those. I
still scratch my head over those heavy brass plumbing fittings that I'd
never put in a plane and no control cable pulleys of any kind though.
There was recent mention of builders becoming cheap after buying a kit
but I was thinking that some of that has to be a result of a lot of
unexpected expenses and a stretched budget.

stepped in. I am so tired of fighting Murphy for a part. Murphy's ship
list and mine are apparently not the same. My copy shows that they only
sent 2 HM4M rod ends. They did send more than that but not enough. I don't
have any HM5M rod ends. Their documentation does not match mine and neither
matches what I really got. They also shorted me 32 RR-5606 rivets but I'm
not even going to fight that battle. I am close to finished with my plane.
I am also finished with Murphy. I tried very hard to not be a Murphy
basher. But this is the last straw. My next plane was going to be a
Renegade. Now it will probably be a Starduster II. I read in the now
famous article about Darryl how he doesn't like the builders that want to
get parts free for changes they make after design reviews. I basically
agree with him on that. If it's a design improvement and not a design fix,
then builders should pay if they want it. But they shouldn't have to pay
for missing parts. If there is a discrepancy or mixup, why not give the
benefit of the doubt to the builder. Despite what Darryl apparently thinks,
we're not all out to screw him out of as much free stuff as possible.

Hi Mike

When we first started to send out SR2500 kits, for the aileron push pull
tubes we used CC-30 end plugs and HM5M rod ends. I looked at your shiplist
and see that you were sent 6 of the CC-30 and 6 of the HM5M rod ends. Two
are for the elevator push pull tube and the other 4 of each are for the
aileron push pull tubes. The confusion for you is probably you have an
updated manual which shows to use the HM4M rod ends which we now use for the
aileron tubes. Go ahead and use the HM5M rod end as they are not going to
be used anywhere else.

Have a good day
Darryl

Mike,

You are preaching to the choir...

Gave up on the hardware issues a long time ago. Not problems with the
employees, just company policy. Started to order from Wicks unless it was
something that only Murphy would have. Faster delivery times, less grief,
more $$$, and no custom problems.

Gotta go Light Sport. Great aircraft. Between the manual, FWF parts, and
hardware, Murphy wasn't even considered. Building a Zenith 701. A totally
different company. Building a wing of a 701 is faster than sealing the tanks
of a Super Rebel.

Then there is the Robin factor.... Wonder how he is doing.

The Super Rebel is for sale on Barnstormers.

IMHO the Skybolt is better than a Starduster.

Darryl wrote me today and was accommodating despite my tirade. OK, I am not
done with Murphy. There was some kind of mixup and Darryl is willing to
make it right. As I told Darryl, I've had a bad week of multiple "I'm sorry
mister Kimball but your home insurance doesn't cover that", "I'm sorry
mister Kimball but our records show.". My reaction was a knee jerk reaction
based on past difficulty with missing parts among other things such as my
stupid home insurance company. I have had trouble with MAM over the years
with missing parts requests and that certainly had an affect on my current
reaction. But Darryl is willing to work with me and I'm gratified to unburn
the bridge I almost burned with MAM.
