[rebel-builders] engines -- gas

Post by bransom » Sun Feb 19, 2012 10:47 am

I've been away from the list so am catching up...

Mike, I'm just in engine wannabe mode, and surely ain't no expert, but LSE
electronic ignition replacing one magneto plus (maybe) Elllison throttle
body carb are two nice performance enhancing items -- good bang for the
buck. Ellison not compatible with car gas, but car gas also may be
disappearing from even summer options with all the ethanol, not to mention
if you go high compression pistons.

Another question, and perhaps this is too close to discussing religion ...
how much ethanol is too much ethanol for a regularly used 0320 in the
summer? This is also considering the mess made by 100LL lead -- a friend
rebuilt his 0-200 (midget mustang) a year ago and the crap left in there by
the lead made him convert to car gas most of summer, changing to 100LL on
occasion for the lube. Is this wise?
-Ben

One of it's features is I can instal a switch that will retard the maximum
advance by 5 degrees for when I'm burning mogas

Ben,

The article on fuel in this month's "KitPlane" would lead one to
believe any alcohol is TOO MUCH. It all sounded reasonable to me,
but then I'm easily hornswaggled. DO octane boosters contain alcohol?

John...
