I spoke to Mr. Grove about their gear - apparently thay have done
a couple of Rebels, but have NO pictures of the assembly. The ones
they did were retro-fixes, and they just used the existing 2 outer
bolts on each side to clamp the one-piece spring - no feedback on
how it worked.
I like your idea MUCH better - surely sturdy plates over top and
bottom of BOTH tubes (and the angles, etc.) would allow wider gear,
which would help distribute the load better. Mr. Grove also thought
that he could use thinner aluminum for the one-piece leg than the
stock gear, so there might not be too big a weight increase....
He said he would be happy to work with anyone who could supply
drawings and pictures of the gear mounting area, and might be able
to offer suggestions for a better setup. Might be worth discussing.

In any case, the saddles contacting the gear will be radiused for rolling
