[rebel-builders] elevator cables

Post by Bob Patterson » Sun Feb 19, 2012 10:26 am

Hi Mike !

Probably not a good idea. It will increase the load on those
welded-on tabs & change the feel & movement required for elevators.
Considering the hundreds of Rebels flying happily without this mod,
most likely one to skip ...

i have real design question

i saw a rebel once where the attachment points ( on the main control tube
) for the two elevator cables was moved further out buy bolting a 1/8"
plate to the existing cable attach brackets, this was done to get more up
elevator on his rebel, and it did give more travel when tested

i can do this on mine but am wondering if it is worth doing ???

any comments

Mike

If you have not upgraded your elevator bellcrank you will have lots of
control movement as is. I upgraded and moved the firewall and instrument
panel and still have sufficient movement although the stick does come a
long way back. I didn't think there was room to extend the bottom attach
point but if you do you'd have to extend both the top and bottom equally
of course.

Yeah the Soob fired right up although now I have a new set of "issues"
to sort out...

Yes correct guys. Stick back..bottom cable pulls top of mixer...which inturn
pushes the push pull tubes back on the bottom of the mixer..pushing the
elevator horn..raising the elevator up..making the nose go up....airplane
stalls..stick forward..elevator down..all's well again.

Sorry toooooo many isocyanyte fumes I guess....

[rebel-builders] Elevator cables

Post by Ken » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:56 pm

Just another fun thing for you to guess at Dave.
Actually the location does vary depending on where you locate the
pulleys. That would be the pulleys on the floor that you probably don't
have. MAM made a pulley and mount available after it became apparent
that Canadian inspectors would not waive the 3 degree bend rule for
primary flight cables. Many of us just made our own bracket and obtained
pulleys from Aircraft Spruce or wherever and mounted two pulleys one or
two bulkheads forward.

I have checked all the man and cannot find anything that gives instruction for this.
I'm ready to mount the control horn cc-68 and continue with the cable location along with the control rods for the elevators.
Any help out there?
Thanks confused in Mi.

[rebel-builders] Elevator cables

Hello Dave

I just went through this same aggravating situation a couple weeks ago. I
don't know what your SN is, mine is 802R. Through trial and error the lowest
dimension I found with the cable passing through Fus. -36 using MAM's
bracket Fus-254 L & R mounted on bulkhead "D" with pulleys MS24566-3B was
1-5/8" above Fus. - 31. Like Drew says depending on a number of things your
dimension may vary. Hope this helps.
