I thought it was interesting to read about the gold rush of '98 prior to
out trip. Then we had more of a historical perspective of Skagway when
we stopped there. If you can book a scenic flight over the Chilkoot
trail it would be interesting and very scenic.

Visiting the Exit Glacier and taking the short walk from the parking lot
is something you ought to be able to do with your Mom in Seward. You'll
need to get a car. There's a guy at the airport there, Jim Craig (email
above), who does a fantastic job for a very reasonable price, doing
scenic flights over the whole area.

Mike Kimball ought to be flying his Super Rebel by the time you get to
Fairbanks--right Mike?

Alaska Cruise sailing out of Vancouver on May 14th.
(I hate packaged tours but she's always wanted to do it)
The first thing she wants to do is book all the shore excursions and the

only thing I would like to do is fly or visit any builders that might be

along our route.. We are stopping at Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, Glacier

Bay, College Fjord, and Seward. Then onto Denali and Fairbanks. Any of
you Alaska guys have any suggestions on the do's and don'ts - the
must see or not worth the money type comments???

I'd love to have you visit me in Fairbanks, and you're surely welcome but as
much as I love living here I often wonder why tourists come here. There's a
couple of cheesy fake Gold Mine tours where you can pan for seeded gold in a
trough and a large paddle-wheel riverboat ride. That's about it. I will
say that I have been on the riverboat ride twice and it's pretty good. My
SR should be at the airport by early summer and hopefully assembled and
ready for taxi tests by mid-summer. It's only one man's opinion but I don't
like Anchorage. Big city, maniac drivers, crowds. (Speak up Chris - Defend
your home!) Everything in southeast Alaska is worth the visit. I visited
all the places you mentioned via a 1968 Piper Arrow in 1991. I love Seward,
and I go there every summer to sail yachts in Resurrection Bay. If you have
the time to go on a halibut or salmon charter you stand a very good chance
of filling your freezer with some very nice fish. They have freezing and
shipping facilities for the fish available to you. Or you could just give
your catch to me. :-) Denali is very touristy and you only get a very
distant look at the mountain although you have a good chance of seeing some
wildlife and the scenery is nice.

What does she look like?

Well, she is a bit like my Rebel. Nothing fake or plastic about her,
functional, hard working and not showy or ostentatious.
However she does require regular maintenance, must have a certain amount of
paint and polish and demands expensive hangaring!

She enjoys world travel and is taking a girl friend with her for a tour
through USA, Canada and Alaska.

Hi Ian, the boat is the Veendam, Holland America Line. We arrive in
Vancouver on the 13th from Toronto. I would love to swap stories about
pilots and/or Rebel lovers.

Mike, thanks for the reply, I like your idea of a fishing charter - it
would be better than the tour bus!
I'm not sure of the free time but I'd love to buy you a beer when I get
