Hi Jim. I would check the parts to see what size hole had been furnished.
With my Rebel kit "652" I had 3/8 holes and 5/16 bolts which Murphy replaced
with 3/8 bolts. The current Rebel in house "725" is 3/8 holes and bolts. The
Rebel was upgraded to 3/8 a while ago so it appears you may have a mix. Bob

We've had quite a few discussions on the Manual and I ran across
something this morning when assembling the landing gear that I would
like an opinion on.

In two areas - Fig.15.1.6 and Fig 15.3.6 it calls for AN-6-35A bolts
with penny washers and lock nuts. These are the bolts that you wrap the
bungee cord around. In a third spot Fig15.5.1 it calls for AN-5-35A
bolts. Now I have the AN-5-35A bolts and penny washers supplied with the
kit but I don't have any of the AN-6-35A.

Which is right? Now it's two to one for AN-6 - but the 5 - is in the
house!

Thanks
Jim

PS - if someone is making notes for the manual here is one to correct.

Thanks Bob, the holes are not drilled to final size so I think I'll
drill them to 5/16 assemble the gear and then drill them to 3/8 when I
can get the 3/8 AN hardware.(if it's recommended to go to the larger
bolts for the bungee gear). That way I can do all the other bits and
pieces to get the gear mounted.
Cheers

Hi Jim !

This is stirring old memories ! As I recall, even the AN-6's bent !
The fix we came up with made the bungees work better & last longer,
as well -- Turn some Delrin down, or use Delrin tubing, to 1/2" - 1"
diameter, to slip over the bolts, between the gear tube & the penny
washers. When the nuts are tightened, the tube over the bolt adds
a lot of resistance to bending, since the base presses on the tubing.
Because the sleeve is larger diameter than the bolt, and more slippery,
the bungee can slide over it more easily, keeping tension even.
They tend to flatten on the bolt, & stick ...

Also, you'll want to put the bolts in opposite directions to
make installing the bungee easier - made-up rings are a LOT easier !
The holes in the gear tubes should be parallel to the bolts through
the center support - easier to fair ! You can put the top end of
a ring onto the top bolt inside the washer, then use a come-along
connected to the bottom of the gear leg, to pull the bottom of
the ring down to the end of the bottom bolt, then pull it on with
a large screwdriver. One of those nylon strap ratchet cargo tie downs
from Canadian tire works great ! :-)
