new homebuilt shop

Post by Brian Godden » Sat Feb 18, 2012 2:53 pm

Listen up guys, some news.
A certified shop is now open on Chilliwack airport, BC, where half the floor
is dedicated to certified stuff, half to homebuilts.
Projects on the go are two M14 Moose, both to receive Montana Amphibs (what
else). But more exciting is a Moose airframe being assembled at
Metalcrafters in the Philippines, which the shop will receive to finish and
install a Walter Turbine. This aircraft will also have the Metalcrafters
cabin extension.
Doug is working pretty well full time in the shop, and I am there
supervising and cutting metal when I'm in town, not skiing or goofing off on
the lake.
So there are dedicated Moose/Murphy guys on hand. You'll get honest, direct
advice on your airframe, and if anybody wants to drop in, land or air,
coffee is always hot.
The shop will build you anything from a flap to a whole airplane, and is a
point of contact for Mark Cupitt's Metalcrafters in the philippines, the
ONLY place you can get a Fast Build Moose.
So if you have finally thrown your hands up in the air in despair, run out
of time or both, e-mail me or Doug (dhblackcrow@shaw.ca), and lets get you
in the air, no matter what airframe.
I see the fingers waging about the massive turbine power, and yes we will be
limiting the go juice....but we will also have the panic button on the dash
to override the limiters if the trees are getting too big in the window.
So, hands up who wants to ride with me the first time I push the button. OK,
all of you put your hands down now. Bob Patterson and Al Paxia...I saw that,
you had both hands in the air.
Bob, hope you will let us entertain your Rebel Ramble to a hangar bash in
the new shop when you get here...Doug may even be able to persuade some of
his friends to bring some War Birds in.
Brian

Make sure every project has a unique "builder of record" or you're heading
for trouble.

I've been invited/attended some of the latest TC meetings and the upper
crust are back pedaling on the "pro build" exemption they wrote.

Even a private individual cannot be building 2 of the same model airplanes
at the same time...or it's considered "mass production". You can have one
Elite, one Rebel and one Moose all under constuction at the same time, in
the same name and it's fine....but god forbid two moose at the same time!

No company can start building an airplane without a "builder of record"
filed with MDRA and the "oversee the project" for the builder of record is
being taken by TC to mean much more than writing a cheque at the end of
every month. ONLY this "builder of record" can deal with MDRA for preclose
and final inspections and must be fully coherant on what's going on.

Just a heads up.....sounds good....have fun!

Wayne

Hi jean,
Did not understand your message, but actually it's not my shop...I just pass
through. I just hope it helps some discouraged people and acts as a focus
point for Murphy builders here in the Valley.

Wayne...thanks. I believe the shop will concentrate more on building sub
assemblies, engine installs, avionics etc. Very few finished aircraft. We
all know how expensive that ends up!
