Latex Gloves (NITRILE)

Post by Steve Halvorsen » Sat Feb 18, 2012 2:41 pm

Jean & Wayne,

I've found that the Nitrile glove is a much better glove to use and doesn't fall apart like the latex when useing solvents.
If you have a Harbor Freight near they are only $7.00 a box when they're on sale, aleast once a month.

Hello

To resist thinner and chemical, do not use latex glove, use nitril glove,
similar in feel and confort but resistant to oil, solvant etc..

Just thought I'd post up a "thumbs up" for Stanley brand "Hand Helper"
Latex
gloves. I have always used Conform that I bought through Seton. They
were
alright (stuck with them for almost 13 years!)...but tore pretty easy
and
I
always wore two pairs which really cuts down on circulation to my
already
bad fingers. I picked up a box of the Stanley Hand Helper Latex one size
fits all (100/box) a couple weeks ago at Home Depot. About $14 if I
remember
right. Nice fit for finger dexterity and I only managed to rip one glove
installing about 1000 rivets today. They also held up a bit better to
acetone clean up at the end of the day. Conforms immediately
disintegrate
with acetone. These ones lasted through cleaning the tools and during
removal from my hands they finally broke.

Latex Gloves (NITRILE)

Post by Jesse Jenks » Sat Feb 18, 2012 2:41 pm

I have tried latex and nitrile and agree with Wayne. The nitrile ones that I
got are way too fragile. I like latex for durability and havn't had any
problem using acetone with them, but I wonder if the acetone can penetrate
the glove without any visible holes in the glove.

Latex Gloves (NITRILE)

Post by Mike Davis » Sat Feb 18, 2012 2:41 pm

Well it seems that the brand must make a real difference. The first box I
bought was latex and acetone caused them to literally fall to shreds on my
hands almost instantly. Next I bought a couple of bottles of nitrile
gloves... looks like baby wipe dispensers. I tore 1 or 2 trying to pull
them through the dispenser before I just pulled the top off the bottle and
threw it away. But I find that the gloves are much more durable than the
latex... both to chemicals, and to punctures and tears.

Latex Gloves (NITRILE)

Post by Dave Ricker » Sat Feb 18, 2012 2:41 pm

And for my $.02 CDN I use Ansel TN T blues with good success although laquer
thinner is hard on them. I get the non-powdered ones (did you know the powder
isn't for the user's benefit it's to make them come off the mold easier!).

Under $20 for a box of 100 at your local industrial supplies distributor. I got
them for the tank sealer job (work great there) but now I use them a lot in the
shop when I'm working on someting greasy or paint etc. Pretty convenient &
cheap.

Latex Gloves (NITRILE)

Post by Wayne G. O'Shea » Sat Feb 18, 2012 2:41 pm

Thanks for the info. Looks like a good outfit for specialty stuff like
gloves for paint stripping.

The point of my original posting was so that everyone knew they had a source
of good usable gloves for doing their tank work by walking into their local
Home Depot ......which everyone seems to have now coast..to coast. to
coast...to coast...to coast....to coast(without the mail order costs or
wait) . I use to order my Conform gloves from a safety specialist here in
Canada and the Stanley gloves available at HDepot are better. They are also
better than the Doctors use in town as well....as I have a good Dr. source
for those as well and don't use them.

Cheers,
Wayne
