Hello

I am ready for the "pre-close" wings inspection. I have look for a Aeroflash nav/stobe/position light kit. Leavens gave me $566.83 cdn for the kit. I plan to go at the Sun'Fun next april. Should I wait? I know there is often special there....

I have see in the archives that some have fix the power supply on a braquet on the last rib.... I would prefer direct on the main spar... is it ok (I have the Fife wings tips)???

Hi Jean !

That's a surprisingly good price from Leavens ! Did it include
the power supplies ??

I would think there'd still be better deals at S 'n F ....
I think Whelen used to give 20%+ off - maybe Aeroflash would too ?? :-)
Might be worth asking Aeroflash if they will be represented at S 'n F.

You might want to have a look at these, too :
https://ssl.perfora.net/www.gs-air.com/ ... shopscript

or just try: http://www.gs-air.com

I like the idea of LEDs - less power, less heat, LONG life --
-- and the price is appealing ! Shouldn't be a problem with
licencing in Canada.

I've never seen aeroflash at sun'n fun or Oshkosh.

Generally if the spruce regular price is $453. you can count on walking
away with no additional tax (they generally eat the state tax for you)
at a show. If you get lucky someone might have them discounted. I
purchased mine from an ultralight supplier down in the ultralight area
for slightly cheaper than the price in the hangars. Think it was $400
for the double flash units a couple of years ago. I have since seen
ultralight products that I like better than aeroflash - units with a one
piece formed acrlyic cover for example and a dozen flash sequences to
choose from.

Canadian purchasers might want to e-mail Demel in British Columbia for a
price. The PST saving will generally cover the shipping and their prices
tend to be more competitive than Leavens. You still get hit with GST of
course but no cross border muggings at least.

As for power supply mounting, mine are on the spar (Fife tips) but that
required that the 3 strobe wires (with the molex pins already crimped
on) be extended a couple of inches. A bracket on the rib might eliminate
that. However the supplier (Leading Edge Airfoils - I think) threw extra
pins and plastic molex housings into the box in case I needed them
anyway. There is controversy over the need for it with modern capacitors
but last time I looked aeroflash still recommended conditioning the
capacitors with low voltage before use if the power supplies have been
stored for more than 6 months or a year so there is some advantage to
just putting the wire in the wings and waiting until you are about ready
to fly before purchasing. As Bob says, the LED position lights are
starting to appear now. They will almost certainly take over the market
for most lighting applications and it may happen fairly quickly for 12
volt lighting.

For once, Leavens price seems OK, since ACS wants $453.95 US. I secured
mine to the spar with plate nuts and put an inspection cover on the lower
skin big enough to remove the unit. The rib is too flimsy for my liking.
The Aeroflash light units do have a grounding problem - mine quit working
after a few weeks - but that's easily fixed.

Jean here a reasonable priced kit no wiring with it but none of the others
do in some of the kits either. Just another option.
