Split flaps/ailerons = 1/2 the flap AND 1/2 the aileron !

If you were looking at Walter Klatt's Rebel on that video,
they are flapperons - there's a gap between sections that some
have not filled in, but they ARE joined together !

worms, but...

I disconnected the flaperons on my Moose--and I like it much better
without flaperons. Mind you I'm not the most experienced tailwheel
pilot in the world--I only have about 650 on tailwheels. With
flaperons, in a strong (e.g. > 12 knots or so) crosswind, I had my hands
full. Without flaperons, I've landed in 17 to 20 knot crosswinds with
no anxiety or issues whatsoever. I've talked to other folks that have
either disconnected or built an option allowing either full, partial or
no flaperon action. Maybe it's my inexperience talking, but I'd much
rather have it going straight down the runway 5 knots faster without
flaperons, than 5 knots (?) slower (and at a dangerous angle) with
flaperons.

Similar but not the same Ted. You have drooping ailerons..not flaperons on
your Moose. The rebel flaperon is totally connect with the entire 12' per
wing going down together. Not one full and the other part way like the
Moose, with only the outboard section (aileron) moving via the stick. The
entire unit moves with the stick on the rebel.

It's like any airplane. You've got to know when to use full, partial or none
depending on the x wind component....and once you get past the first scare
that the airplane won't turn using the stick and that it requires rudder to
where you want to be and opposite rudder to straighten you back out it
becomes natural.

FWIW..I love the droop ailerons on my UTVA 66's. 45 degrees of flap and 15
degrees of aileron when down full. Both are true fowler flaps when down.
