Scotchbrite pads

Hi all,
I have a question about the scotchbrite pads. I noticed at Leavens that they had various types of pads
for sale. Does this mean that the grocery store (green) variety are just not up to the job? Should I use
the aviation store variety instead? Any comments would be appreciated, and thanks ahead of time to
all.

Alan,
The green ones are fine for doing dishes but I think you willl find the
red (all purpose) and grey (rougher than red) more useful for aircraft
building.

Looks like the dishwasher in our household (me) has at least a years' supply of tools at his disposal.

One thing I've found very useful is the 2" Speed Lok pads that I use in
my small die-grinder. They are the same as the maroon scuff pads that
Ralph talked about. There're great for running along the edge and
rounding corners. I bought a box of both from a local auto supply store
that sells paint and body shop supplies here in Barrie.
They are made by Bear Tex

The green ones work but I seem to vaguely recall having a preference for
the maroon ones after checking the abrasive compatibility with
aluminum??? Or maybe it was the compatibility with steel when I was
doing the engine mount?? An industrial supplier such as KBC tools is
likely a lot cheaper.

My use of them fell drastically after I purchased one of those 1" x 6"
diameter wheels for a 6" bench grinder.
