I'm curious if anyone has used the Darton "Clean Kit", used on many old
warbirds, on the MP-14 engine?
It's well known to reduce hydrolic lock on these old expensive babies.
Anyone do this or hear of this?

Darton "Clean Kit" on the MP-14?
Darton "Clean Kit" on the MP-14?
Yes we did. Kind of a self designed system with George Coys help. We ran two
drain lines into a pair of shut off valves. One line from the sump case on
the front of the engine and the second from the three lowest cylinder intakes.
We tapped into the caps. From the valves, that are controlled with one push
pull , we run into a storage tank. From there we pump back to the main oil
tank. Procedure as follows: After shutdown we open the valves with the push
pull. Oil immediately starts to drain from the case and intakes to the storage
tank. So far after 15 hours of flight we seem to get a consistent 2 quarts of
oil into the storage tank. We have a mini pump mounted on the firewall that
prior to start up we run and empty the storage tank back to the main oil tank.
Then close the valves and fire away. Simple and effective......But so far we
are still pulling blades before startup. For how long..who knows. Until
someone tells us or we decide we have eliminated 100% chance of an oil hydro lock.
Pulling a few blades is very cheap insurance....besides who doesn't need the
exercise.

Excellent, I'm glad this is being done and being solved. I consider it the
biggest issue with the radial engine.
I'm quite surprised that the manufacturer doesn't offer something like this
as a manufacturer option, for something
that's such an obvious problem.
