Elite fuselage building

Post by Mike Betti » Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:35 am

Builders,
Sorry for all the questions but I can't find reference to these
questions and I don't want to do anything twice, the holes just aren't
has nice the second time around.

- Do I trim the fus3 off on each side to match the contour of the front
wing attach brackets?

- Do I add st40 angle clips to the 2 half bulkheads in the cabin roof? I
added them to no.9 as directed.

- Are the rivets for attaching the front of the side sills to the fus4
on each side only 1/8"? Seems like 3/16 is a better choice.

Thanks to all in advance,
Mike Betti

Mike, the Fus-3 should already be rounded off on each end. This is all you
need....you do not want to trim and comprimise the 1" widths section any
further in....sent you a picture.

As for filling in the cutouts in the bulkheads. They only need to be done on
the rear wing attach double one. Make sure you do both the top and side
cutouts though.

Rivets..choice is yours.

....and if you move the float attach point forward for Montana's you'd want
to do the cutouts on that one as well.

Hell, my brain's not workin right today...must be the 32C or maybe just old
age (43!). You have to fill those cutouts on the top and sides of the
bulkhead that finishes off the tailcone where it transitions to the cabin as
well. This is the float point bulkhead on the Rebel.....not sure if this is
the same on the Elite though....but I suspect it is.

But then reading your email again...when you say "angle clips"...are you
talking about filling the cut outs that were tooled to allow the flanged
edges of the tailcone panels to fit in the notches...or are you talking
about the small angles that you make up and rivet to extend the bulkhead
where you have cut it off to attach it to the top of the door frame
(FUS-27). If so yes you need these angles...and better yet..measure properly
and cut and bend the flanges right onto the bulhead itself (in all the
places they come agains the FUS-27 and the door sills).

Wayne,
You were right the first time, the clips for filling the cutouts on the top
and sides. Too late for forming the bulkheads above the cabin into an angle
at the bottom but a good idea!
Thanks,

Mike's Fus-3's are square on the ends! Anyone else receive them this way???
Looks like MAM forgot to trim his off, as they have to be rounded off and
sometimes even filed for slightly more clearance from there or the upward
angling front wing attach fittings won't clear them.

Elite fuselage building

Post by Wayne G. O'Shea » Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:38 am

Just wanted to clarify my brain was working the first time. Guess I was
thinking of my .063 doubler plates I put on the float attach point corners.

You CANNOT fill the cutouts on this bulkhead.... as the tailcone sides and
top flanges need to sit in them!
