Stop near Calgary before Cut Bank, MT?

Post by Ted Waltman » Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:35 am

Say, I'm redoing part of my planning on flying from Valemount to the
Calgary area and on into Cut Bank, Montana. I want to stop somewhere
around Calgary to call U.S. Customs and be closer to the U.S. border to
insure I can meet the required arrival time B.S. that my own government
makes me go through (yes, it hacks me off).

Anyway, can anyone recommend a field near Calgary with friendly folks
and cheap (is there such a thing <grin>) fuel for a short stop? I just
picked Claresholm CEJ4 somewhat at random. Perhaps someone on the list
has a favorite field?

Thank you,

Ted

I'm sure Garry would be more than glad to see you at Springbank, or maybe
Sean will be home at Okotoks.

Springbank might be OK, but High River, south of Calgary
a few miles, is home to Garry's Rebel ..... and cheap gas ! :-)
If you let Garry know, he'd likely come out to say hello !
Sean is at Okotoks, and they have gas, too.

Or you could go way down, to Lethbridge, to be closer to
the border.....

Yah, listen to Bob! I typed Highbank first and then thought no that's not
right and looked in the CFS and saw Spring bank...it's a controlled zoo.! I
saw Garry's Priddis Corner but didn't see a strip close to it.

High River CEN4 has what may be the cheapest fuel around. And me.
There are a couple of motels, places to eat etc within about 3 miles of
the airport. You could do a lot worse.

Cheers

Okotoks is nice, too. CFX2, that's where I live. I would make coffee but
will be in the Philippines then. There is always someone there from 8:00 am
to 5:00 pm, but a fella named Klark usually stays there until 9:00 pm. He
is the CFI and runs a fairly busy flight school there. The number at CFX2
is (403) 938-5252. sean.
