Hi. - Bob Johnson is here. Yes I had to have the motor mount reworked to
clear the hump on the top of the Engine. I had a very good machine shop
replace the center tube with a higher curve piece. Also I did build in a
box on the firewall to clear the dual mag. There was a bolt on cover from
inside the cockpit that could be removed to service the mag. Actually it was
the only way to take it off without removing the Engine. Other then those
two issues I was real happy with the performance and smoothness of that
engine. It ran like a top until I had a certified shop do an annual
inspection for the new owner. They screwed up the timing somehow?? It has
since been corrected and as far as I know still running great. - right

Hello Bob, Wayne & Ben.
Thanks for your comments on the changes needed for the H2AD. I already have
an engine mount + complete FWF componets that I aquired from Rick Harper, so
I am not sure if it is MAN's. I have now an excuse to pester Rick again.
As for the mag cover, I thought that I may replace both the existing mags
with with the E-Mag electronic ignition. This may elevate the need for the
hole in the firewall. I will need to do some homework but I will be still
building for the next two years.
Bob any chance for some pictures of your installation for future
reference????
And Ben thanks for your quey; out of it I got some very valuable information
that I did not know about.
As for you Wayne, please do not aquire "old timers diease". I may need some
advice in the future.

Right Bob, that first flight was not a happy one.Timing was off so far
that Brampton techs could not figure out why it still ran!

Running fine now though.

I'm always good for asking a question or two. Thanks a lot for all the info
you provided on this engine, and yeah, we all benefited from what Bob and
Wayne added too. BTW, in an example of the small world -- your engine lobe
inspection at Sacramento Sky Ranch is 25 minutes drive from my house. :)

Hi all,
The Turners out of thunder Bay used an h2ad. They put one std mag in the
single hole in the accessory case, and an electronic mag with the pic up's
behind the flywheel. Lightspeed and Electro air give you the option on where to
get the picup points.
I run the lightspeed with one mag with impulse coupling on mine and I love

Does this mean that with Lightspeed electronic ignition on one side (and
standard mag on the other) that you don't need to do the mounting mods Wayne
and Bob referred to, i.e. hole in firewall to access one mag and a curved top
tube on the motor mount?

Hi Ben,
Yes that's what I was getting at. When you remove the drive for the dual
mags the hole into the accessory case is a basic mag hole. Removing the drive
should give you enough room for the mag without a box or a stainless steel
mixing bowl eating up your space behind the panel. The electronic ignition
also gives you auto spark advance based on manifold pressures and rpm. You can
then use 3.50 platinum plugs with a .038 gap instead of 19.00 aviation plugs
and a .016 gap. better flame front, more efficient fuel burn. I run at 2500
rpm, leaned, and run about 7.1 to 7.2 gph 100 ll. Curt N97 MR
