I agree it's perhaps a bit forward, but not as much as a foot. The airplane
is parked considerably nose up, which gives the illusion of the step being
'way forward. The Montana 2200s have the rear spreader one full bay ahead
of where they are on the Murphy 1800s. I think this is partly because Keith
had the Glasair in mind. Anyway, I have a rear raked strut, but I have a
bracing wire running forward to a fitting at the rear end of the door sill
to absorb the aft forces on a hard touchdown. I'll post a pic for anybody
interested. On the Elite, the door sill is really solid (0.062), so I think
it will hold up. Guess we'll see.
Eric was pretty happy with his Rebel, but I do think the aft force on that
rear attach point could be a problem, and on the Rebel it's not so easy to
fix.

downHi Al !
From the photo, that looks like Ron Barber's old Rebel.
The step appears to be over a foot or more too far forward -
that would account for the angle of the rear support ....
and also the poor performance !! ;-) :-)
Guess they had <some> reason for the positioning.

It was Eric Draper's Rebel. I've posted the pic on Rebel/Float
Installations. The rear spreader is about the same location as on the
Montana 2200s.

Probably BILMAR floats Al, not CLAMAR's. I know of at least one Rebel
areyour way with a set of Bilmars on it that doesn't fly right. CLAMAR's
Rebelsimilar but significantly lighter, but IMHO still too heavy for the
handorElite or I'd be installing them myself.... considering I work hand in
prettywith Clair Sceli already. Pretty sure the deck pickup points are
wouldsimilar on both mfg's floats though so the mounting strut picture
strut isshowthe "tale" without me needing to get measurements for Gilles.
Cheers,
Wayne
