Push pull cable ends - plain wire typ

Post by Scott Aldrich » Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:13 am

What is the accepted/recommended thing to do with the wire that sticks out
through the end of whatever device you used to hold the wire to the control
arm that you are moving (plain piano wire type ends)?
I have seen them left straight, bent 90 degree, wrapped all the way around
or just plan mangled??

Thanks,
Scott

Push pull cable ends - plain wire typ

Post by Bob Andrews » Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:13 am

Scott,

For a solid wire to bug nut attachment, recommend you leave at least an inch
(perhaps a little more if the excess wire end doesn't hit anything) on the
free side of a bug nut. Bending it 90 degrees at the bug nut would only
help in one direction if the bug nut were to loosen ... leaving it straight
allows for some adjustments (either way) down the road should they be
needed.

Thanks Bob. I have been leaving them straight but have seen so many
variations I was wondering if that was the right thing to do.

Push pull cable ends - plain wire typ

Well if it is just an opinion you want - why didn't you say so?
We all thought you wanted something worthwhile ;)

Bend a little 270 degree loop if you are positive you'll never need to
remove the wire or adjust it and you have the room. You are almost
always going to want to remove it or adjust it though and it WILL
therefore extract vengeance and your blood sooner or later. At that
point an irresistable urge to mangle it may occur. You could
perhaps try to compromise with a little waviness then wrap it with
tape (preferably self fusing silicone tape) or heatshrink.

Push pull cable ends - plain wire typ

Post by Wayne G. O'Shea » Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:13 am

Have'n a good day Ken LOL !!!

I'm with Ken on this...I think! Tighten the wire end properly and leave
enough wire sticking out for future adjustments. Bending a curly cue on the
end is going to bite you in the @$$ later on when you want to remove or
adjust. If you are that concerned about the cable end falling off....go to
the local jobber and get some small choke cable stops and add one to the
open end of the cable to prevent the assembly from falling apart if the one
running your throttle/mixture comes loose for some reason.

Cheers,
Wayne
