What did you folks that are building a Elite, do with the dimpleing on the
horizontal for the stab and fin fairing. The diagram shows the dimpling
going clear to the trailing edge in the center section! however the last
two rows of rivits have the doubler ST326 on the outside. This doubler
doe's not lend itself to dimpling?

I countersunk the rivet holes in the stabilizer doublers. I don't recall
the thickness of the doubler, but it was plenty thick for countersinking.
Don't dimple the skin under the doubler, just counter sink the
doubler. I picked up a 120 degree countersink cutter from Aircraft
Spruce.

Hi Alll.
my friend Bob Gagne in Quebec city has a very well built Elite. He has made
a few interesting mods,
like stall fences etc. one of them is turning fus 429 backward on top of the
carrythrough.The front part now falls back on the first frame where it can
be riveted.This help to stiffen and help in preventing the rocking mouvement
of the sq tubes when the suspention is sollicited.,besides removing the
front lip that hangs free in the feet compartiment.(unless it has a reason
to be there)
can someone shed ligt on the subject
sorry if the subject had been treated before (just in case...!!!)

Hi Gilles

I don't have a manual handy with me right now...but if it's the part I'm
thinking of it is meant to go with the overhang backwards and fasten to the
top of the stn 3 underfloor rib !

Not sure but I have no part going forward of the front FUS 5 carrythrough
except the lower floor skin.

Hi group,
I recently bought the tail fairing after my own attempt failed. I just couldn't make it smooth enough, I knew there was a reason I built a metal plane! The purchased fairing came in 2 pieces, a RS and LS. I am told to glass the halves together. Does it come off ok as a 1 piece item? Looks like you may have to fight the flare of the tail cone as you pull it forward and then off.
I also installed the ground handler kit, it sure is a nice piece and good idea.

Hi all,
Made a big mistake today. You know all those receipts you been throwing in the corner to finish your kit. Well, I went and added them all up .................................$$!
Any one have an idea what a completed Elite on wheels is worth in the US?
Any way, I am about 99% complete. I have to fit the wing tips, make some sort of ladder step, and fit inspection covers to the wing control surfaces and that will be it. Possibly a flight late January depending on the winter we are having. I don't know if that time of the year is any good for breaking in an engine other than the shock cool issue.

Hi builders,

I been out of touch with the group for a year and a half and had to see how
it was going out there. I been in contact with a couple builders since and
discussed some problems.

My Elite now has been flying for 2 years and about 110 hours. It is such a
great airplane! It seems to have the best of both worlds in short field and
cruise. I add VG's to it about a year ago which knocked 10 mph off my stall.


I still don't have the greatest brakes, maybe ok for a tail dragger but wish
I had a bit more. I believe the problem is inadequate brake pressure due to
geometry, but I haven't measured it with a gauge yet. I did recently replace
my pads and found out for some reason I can't get long enough rivets. Does
anybody know what the deal is here. My back plates are aluminum and about
twice as thick as the steel ones in certified aircraft. I ended up machine
countersinking the rivets deeper into the backplate so that standard rivets
would work. Maybe I weakened them by doing this?

I see some disappointment with MAM in some recent letters, I used to get
frustrated too when I was building. Hang in there the airplane is great and
worth the effort.

Nice to hear from you. I remember you as one who started building after me
and zoomed right past. I'm still enjoying the process though and never did
plan on getting it done quick. I'm getting there. Let us know of some

cowlings polyester for the Elite, I may have the wrong e mail, because
