Bob, the empty weight recorded at the scale in Chilliwack, B.C. when 063
was
built was 601 lbs, with the 912. Once you add the radio, gps, headsets and
few
minor items I've added, I figure 625 lbs. As far as gross, I've got
different numbers depending on who you talk to, but I'd go with 1232 lbs.

G'day Aurele

What did you leave out to get that weight?

I thought that I had made a really light airplane but you beat me by #100!

Rebel - 912 powered Empty Weight

Post by Aurele Lavigne » Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:09 am

Ian,

I know, it's probably the engine, you have to power up by kicking your feet
on the ground real fast, like the Fleenstones. LOL

Seriously, I can't answer. It was factory built and Bob P. might have a
better idea. He once told me they actually experimented with this build and
made every effort to keep the weight down. As you can see, they did a great
job. That really improves my performance on floats and helps with payload.
Bob actually flew it back after completion from the factory in B.C. to
Longlac, Ontario.

Of course, this light weight does limit my flying in windy conditions.

P.S. Where are you located.

G'day Aurele

That is amazing that they could get it so light. My plane has a very basic
panel and only a little upholstery and I just dont know where I could take a
few pounds out of it leave alone #100!

I have a very strange mental picture of you pedalling like crazy to get it
all in the air. However the 100hp has no trouble at all hauling it along. It
seems like a great combination to me. Australia is mostly desert and we just
don't have use for floats like you would do in your part of the world.

My Rebel handles windy conditions and just a week ago I did circuits with my
instructor and we were landing in over 20knots, gusting at 90 degrees. The
rebel handles just beautifully.

I live in the city of Geelong in the state of Victoria in the wide brown
land of Australia. We are right at the bottom of Australia if you get out
the map. Come over and have a holiday and get some good weather. If you
travel to Australia with $US you will have a very cheap holiday indeed!

G'day Bob

Now I understand the difference. I did notice in the video that they offered
a different version to the standard one that I built.

Ian, sorry I didn't respond earlier, had a touch of the flew and been under
the weather a few days.

Would love to visit Australia some day. Will have to do a bit of research
though, as don't know much about the land "down under". Leaving next month
for a Carribean cruise and will start planning for next winters trip over
the next few months.

As for the Rebel's performance, I know that the performance is excellent
"power wise" on wheels and skis, wheareas on floats, like most planes,
performance decreases. Despite this, of the 300+ hours I have accumulated,
almost all is float time. For one thing, we have loads of lakes and rivers
and our winters are sooooo long and harsh, flying time is limited then.

Will keep in touch.
