Yes, I second what Drew is trying to bring across. What you have to do is
compromise the largest "compartment" of the floats for the main gear and
then the only way they will work for a seaplane is "bomb bay" doors are
required to close the section off for water take offs. This is fine and good
if everything works properly...but if the doors don't close properly prior
to a water landing you had better take a very deep breath when you touch
down on the water. Even if the doors open on the take off slide you're in
big trouble......just ask the otter outfit that was water bombing this past
summer and the pilot hit the wrong stick button while scooping
water...popping the dump doors open and totaling the otter.
I also think it would be a pretty squirrelly machine as a quad wheeled
taildragger.

I think having tail wheels would require putting the mains ahead of the
step. Having a big hole ahead of the step doesn't seem like it would make
getting off the water very easy. Landing with the mains down on water
