I have flown the prince prop off water for a year and a half and have seen
zero signs of prop wear. Since the prop tips are P tipped (same as q
tipped), this could be the reason there is no wear, and makes the noise
level much lower than the sensenich.

My prop is a 74-42 which is equal to a sensenich 74-54. Because of the
semitar shape, and P tips the pitch is 54 (almost constant speed).
You must use a spacer that is compatable to a wood-carbon fiber prop. I
bought mine from Saber Co.

I live in Lake of the Ozarks, which is in centeral Missouri.
Today , recorded these results with my amphibious Rebel, Lycoming 160 hp. 30
gallons fuel, 47 F, 1500 msl, full power, 70mph indicated, 2500 rpm, no
flaps, 1200 fpm indicated, 1000 fpm timed.
The rpm was 2500 rpm from static to 80mph.

Prop

I'm using a Lycoming 180 hp in my Elite. I see a lot of previous talk in the past here of the Prince prop. Is the P-tip the ok one to use and is the Prince prop the way to go on this airplane? I like the idea of less weight up front, I have a feeling I will be too light in the tail when the time to weigh it comes?

Jim Cole

Prop

Post by Jim Cole » Sun Feb 19, 2012 12:08 pm

Well you must get tired of everyone saying that "you're right Wayne"

I talked to Warp yesterday and they agreed that a little Epoxy and flat
black paint would make it look like a factory repair and get me back in the
air ASAP. Daryl explained that the "bite" will not travel because of the
weave of the cloth on both the front and back of the prop. The other thing
he mentioned is that it is quite small, on the trailing edge which is very
thin and closer to the hub than the tip so he wasn't concerned about
balance.
Now the question - where do I get the epoxy and is there a specific brand
that I should consider? I went out last night and there's quite a few
choices/types and not having any experience, guidance would be very helpful.

Thanks

PROP

Post by Alvin and Glenys Adams » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:00 pm

I have a 74 42 prince on my rebel with full lotus. 160 HP. Too Fine.
MY experience was not good with the prop.Have 50 Hrs on it.Flew through 3 20 miniute rain showers in the first 30 HRs.Prop showed severe signs off wear.A little more wear after each flight in rain.No damage from water taxing what so ever.Had to return prop to prince for repairs. It has leading edge protection.Have been avoiding rain ever since.I cruse at 2500.
