Post by Bob Fisher » Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:13 am

long nose gear sticking down into the wind
landed fine no such thing as floating around up there like when it was
a taildragger

next i did 15 minutes with the gear pumped up much better! seems to
fly about 106 t o 110 a t 2400 sounds about right?

gear went back down ok landing great what a day!!! now i have to
install the water rudder cabling bob fisher rebel 342

Hi Bob,

Congrats on flyingthose darn amphibs <:-)) that I looked at for so long in
mygarage. I'm still not getting things done here so I haven't got my bird
painted and ready for summer yet.

Anyway, happy to here that the floats survived at least one up/down and
landing. Glad to here you're happy with the performance.

Phil.

WALTER KLATT

first flight

Post by WALTER KLATT » Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:13 am

No problem, and great to see another Rebel amphib flying. I couldn't remember if you had the 150 or 160 engine. It will be interesting to see what you get full throttle straight and level with the 74X56 prop. My guess is that it could be just right for you, since my 150 hp and 74 X 54 prop is able to reach 2700+ pretty easily.

Bruce, now that you've been flying a while, how is your top end? I believe you have a 150 hp and 74 X 56. Can you reach 2700 RPM at straight and level, at say 1500 ASL?

Walter

Walter Klatt

first flight

Post by Walter Klatt » Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:13 am

I can't remember what mine does at 4000 (87.5% power), but I know
at 1500 (95 % power) I will exceed 2700 at 125 mph. I thought
your (Bruce's) prop was 56 pitch. Mine is 54. Yep, with the drag
of floats I rarely have to slip to get down. Just pull it back to
60 mph and she drops like a rock. Sounds like you will have the
usual CHT problems once the summer heat comes. Mine is running at
360 - 380 these days.

Hi Walter

My airstrip is 1950' ASL so it might get a little
messy to see what it will
do all out at 1500 ASL.

Really though, I don't believe I have ever checked my
top end, yet, but I
will do that this weekend and report back. Probably
close to yours since we fly
same engine and prop.

I have been cruising at 2400 or 2500 RPM, usually
around 4000' ASL, and run
100 to 105 MPH respectfully. Lots of drag! I can
really feel the drag on
landing as I must carry power all the way down ... to
land on terra-firma.

CHT's can be kept below 400* F at these settings only
if I don't lean to peak
EGT. At peak CHT's run at 415* and at 150 before peak
it will run at 390*
hottest CHT.

Bruce

Sam & Sandi,
Congratulations! You certainly have a "one of a kind"!

How did you do your cabin step? Susan is undertall and after all the
building help it seems she should at least be able to get into the
plane. Also, did you narrow your elevator or leave it full width?

Enjoy that fly off time.
