Rebel stab root rib

Post by Jesse Jenks » Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:58 am

Starting on the stab today, and having trouble figuring something out; does
the root rib attach to the rear spar with the 2X 3/16" bolts for the rear
spar attach fitting? The exploded view drawing kind of shows it like that
(the bolts are not shown to extend through the root-rib flange, but they are
aligned with it). The manual, however says to drill 3X #30 holes through the
spar and rib flange for rivets. Unless I'm really missing something here
(very possible), if you were going to put 3 rivets there. they would have to
be between the 2 bolt heads which isn't much room at all, and you would have
to drill 3 extra holes through the attach bracket, which is definitely not
shown in the drawing. Also, you would still have to relieve the flange for
the bolts.
Thanks
Jesse

Rebel stab root rib

Jesse,

If I recall you are building the Rebel?
does the root rib attach to the rear spar with the 2X 3/16" bolts for the
rear spar attach fitting?
My recollection is yes, they do. I can double check for you later today when
I go to the hangar if no one else comes up with a more definitive answer.
if you were going to put 3 rivets there, they would have to

shown in the drawing.
There should only be two bolt holes in the rear spar hinge attach bracket. No
rivet holes.

From my CD manual Section 8.5 Final Install:

2) Inboard hinge, spar, attach bracket and root rib with two AN3-6A bolts,
two AN365-1032 fiber nuts and two AN960-10 washers.

I think this is one of those areas of Murphy's Manual that many of us seem to
b@#$! about.

Hope this helps.

Rebel stab root rib

Thanks Roger,
I forgot to look in the CD manual. That does sound very clear though.

Maybe I could come visit someday, as I haven't actually met any other
real-live Rebel builders yet. I'm down in Morro Bay, California that is,
but only 2 free airline hops for me.
Take care.
Jesse
