Ben,
MAM says 6 sheets of 3/4 plywood. It can be done with 5 with very
careful layout. I recommend you spring for a "premium" top (2 sheets).
We used birch plywood and have never regretted the extra cost. Use a
plane to get the top edges flat and smooth as required before you put
the top on. Use glue and drywall screws. Put in extra cross braces and
gussets where you think they will aid triangulation. At each on the 6
feet glue in a corner block with a 1/2 - 13 coupling nut so bolts can be
screwed in from the bottom for leveling. Add a shelf underneath for
additional storage. Use the MAM packing crate if you have it for the
table shelf.
Right off, buy a "Smart Level" to assist in leveling the table
construction and many continued uses during further construction. Also
suggest a 4 foot bubble level to use for a flat straight base for the
Smart Level over greater spans as well as any rough leveling.

You will be glad you took the time to construct the build table
accurately.
Ralph Baker
Elite 624E

PS - We found a 3 shelf materials rack of 2 x 4's and the MAM crate
parts to be useful. It has 4 uprights and 3 - 2 x 4's the long way and
across the ends for shelf supports. Dimensions are 6' high x 8' long x
4' wide. Goes a long way to avoid shop clutter.

Ben,
I did not cut the bench top to install spring main gear for our
tailwheel Elite. We simply moved the fuselage forward for gear mounting
clearance and it worked fine. Perhaps the Rebel bungee or die spring
main gear will require cuts.

That edge overhang can be important as well for clamping stuff down
(especially if you build floats) so don't make the edges of the tabels
"super structure" flush with the top!

Yes Ralph, cut outs through table are required when building the Rebel with
it's "bungee" gear and not required if doing the spring gear as you cut the
leg attach tabs off the gussets before you get to the stage of clamping the
carrythrough cage to the table.

Hello to all,

I have purchased a tail kit from Bruce Krist in Florida (SR191). I have been
in touch with Murphy for the upgrade to the 3500. Bruce is going to ship the
tail kit to me at the end of Jan. Anyway my question is about the workbench
that you all are using. Does MAM have plans for this? Or would one of you?
I would like to get going on this ahead of time if I could.
thanks. Bob Scheuber

Welcome to the group.
There are plans in the manual, but it's a level table 4' X 16'. Most
builders seem to follow the plans, there is no absolute way to build one.
You will want it solid and a comfortable height for you to work.

Welcome Bob.

Like Al said.... 4' x 16' table modify the plans a bit to make it two
seperate 4' x 8's that are easy to attach together solidly and an important
thing is to make sure the table top overhangs the edge of the supporting
structure so you can clamp stab/wing spars/etc to the table edge while you
work on them.

Cheers,

below the table to store stuff as well. Let me know if you want the

I have a PDF file of the workbench plans I made for another builder some
time ago... the file is formatted to the full 11 x 17 size of the original,
so if you print it you may need to make sure it is set to scale to your
paper size. Note that these plans are for the SR2500/Moose and call for a
30" wide table as opposed to the 48" wide table others have recommended...
this is so the fuselage cage can be placed on the table upside down with the
uprights hanging off the sides of the table... but this can easily be
modified to fit your needs.

I've uploaded the file to file area 123 on the archive site... or just hit
"New files".

Bob: I would not be to fussy on the quality of wood for the top as you will
end up drilling many holes in it through out the building process. I used
the plywood from Mam's shipping crate when I built my bench and have since
flipped it over to build a 2nd Rebel.( the top that is) A sturdy and flat
table are the more important issues. Bob J formerly Rebel 652 - currently

Bob - I used the shipping box, Appx 4'x4'x16' - added two 9" TJI (silent
floor composite joists)along the length because they are about perfectly
true(about $1.14 per foot) - added steel studs 24"oc in the other direction
and the two 4'x8' sheets of OSB - Put the whole box on wheels and have a
3/8" bolt upside down turning in the blind nut that is embedded in the TJI -
This levels the table -
It served as a great storage box for those delicate skins and misc but not
real convenient to get in and out of -

Workbench

Post by charles eubanks » Sun Feb 19, 2012 10:26 am

To All
If I get this posted right, this will be my first time on the Rebel net. I
would appreciate your patience. I am waiting now for a estimated mid March
delivery of my Rebel kit, SN/802R. The workbench drawing is the only info I
have received so far. I thought I would get started on it but, in the
interest of conserving floor space in my shop, I am wondering if the
workbench need be the full 4Ft.x16Ft. Or would something smaller work just
as well. Thanks
Charlie E. 802R
