Setting up shop/belt sander

Post by Jesse Jenks » Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:53 am

I was looking at a few different styles of bench top combination disc/belt
sanders. I'm wondering what will be most useful. Some have narrow vertically
mounted belts with a table, and others have the classic wider horizontal
belts. Most also have a disc with a table, and of course the size of each is
proportional to the price tag. I have never used one of the vertical belt
types, but am inclined to go for the horizontal one because it seems better
for free-hand work on rounding corners etc. and you still have the disc with
table that I find very useful for more precision sanding-to-a-line type work
in wood, and would think it should be as useful for aluminum.
Any suggestions to minimum size and best style?
Thanks
Jesse

Mine's a cheapy combo. Side disc..that I rarely use..and the belt that can
be lifted up and down but spends all it's life sitting horizontal. Belt is
36 x 4" wide.
