with the compression spring route is due to the a/c weight would need two
struts/side to keep the spring diameter at current/similar diameter. Going
to bigger springs could get ugly(in more ways than one) in a hurry. In
addition to possibly just working with the leaf gear I'm looking at a few
other methods of absorbtion as well, but will have to wait for a veridict
for at least a year or more with my current plans/schedule.
Cheers,
Wayne

avoidDo you think it might be possible to a compression spring gear system
similar to your Rebel gear to a Moose?

MAM did those big truck tires/rims and I'm told it really got the gear
legs/box/door posts moving! These gave the idea/look of big tires to
10"pot holes..but didn't do anything for shock absorption like a set of
"bushwheels" would. I've put a fair amount of thought into gear box mods
and
leg clamps (that I've shared at Ontario Builders meetings)... and other
landing gear adaptations to get rid of the leaf gear all together... but
since I'm not working on my Moose this winter it will be awhile before
that
all becomes something worthy of pictures or talking about.
If you want to go big tires without as much airframe shock
transition...Bushwheels has a new 35" tire for the Beaver's weight and
notwheels. Only about $4450us/pair (deal right now with free shipping also!
). They also have 31 inchers for the Supercub (or Rebel !!) on 6"
wheels..but they don't have a high enough weight rating for a Moose (and
are
about $3300/pr). http://akbushwheel.com/

Subject: Questions on Ron's Moose in AK
Folks
Looking at pictures of Ron's plane on wheels, (
<http://www.murphymoosealaska.com/Plane.html>
http://www.murphymoosealaska.com/Plane.html ), I see that he says, " 33
inch tundra tires available with 6.00 by 6 tundra tailwheel."
I talked to another Moose owner at Oshkosh who expressed caution about
putting larger tires on the Moose, something or other about the gear
ofbeing designed for the larger moment arm that such would create,
especially in a rough or off-field landing. Does anyone have any
insight into this comment?
Also, I'm curious if anyone on the list know's what type (make/model)
tailwheel he is referring to (perhaps the AK Bushwheel one at
http://www.akbushwheel.com/TundraTailwheel.html )? It's hard to tell
from the picture on his website what the tailwheel make/model is.
