Beaver eating water

Walter, Tell us more about the Beaver taking off with the wheels down? Did
it just sink the nose and trash a prop or more??

And then don't forget to pull up that gear before trying to take off. I
still remember that million dollar turbine Beaver at Nimpo Lake last summer
that forgot to do that. And that was with about 30 BCFA member pilots
watching. It was amazing to see how fast that big prop could grab water.

Beaver eating water

No damage to the airplane, or at least that we could see, just
maybe his pride. It sure happened fast, though. As soon as he
gave it power, the nose went down and we heard and saw the prop
grab some water. He reacted quickly, though, and backed off the
power before anything real bad happened. Then we saw the wheels
come up, and he gave it power again and took off. Needless to
say, it got off the water pretty fast.

It sure was a beautiful plane, and his wife/girlfriend was OK,
too. I think he was from down your area, Al, Seattle or Oregon,
maybe you know him. He was a nice enough guy and everything, as I
remember talking to him, but he sure had the rest of us green
with envy.

His plane was on the ramp beside our Rebels. I should check our
pictures again, and maybe spot the N number.
