What are you using in place of the Sensenich. I have a 74"x58 pitch right
now with a 160 hp.
I'm going to pitch it to 60 maybe even 62. I would like a little faster
cruise at the expense of take off and climb performance.Takes off like a
jack rabbit with a kick in the ass anyway.

29 hrs. and really starting to get the feel of it. Doing touch and goes, I
have taken off from a three point position. Gotta keep the nose down to
get
a little speed before climb. This takes about 2 seconds. Bob says ,"it
just
keeps getting better".

Good luck selling your prop.

Murray
I am using a Prince prop which is wood/carbon fiber, and is 20+ pounds
lighter.

I want to sell my Sensenich 74-56 prop with only two hours since overhaul.
The hub is 7/16 bolt pattern.

What was the size of your engine? Would you then recommend the 74-42

I have a 0-320, 160 hp on amphibious floats. At 2000msl, 72degrees, I
indicated 115mph,2600rpm. You might ask Prince (Lonnie), for his advice. It
might be better to go to a larger diameter since I show no prop erosion from
the water.

Post by Dale Kopff » Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:01 am

Rebel men,

Last year I replaced my Sensenich prop with a Prince prop which out
performed the Sensenich prop in all areas, plus it is 20 plus pounds ligher.

I had Prince prop re-pitch my prop to increase my static rpm to 2500rpm
which did not help. Prince prop then made me a new prop which now gives me
2500 static rpm and 2800 rpm (full power) in level flight, at no cost to me
other than shipp;ing.

The increase in performance is great.
Thanks again to Lonnie Prince Propeller Company

G'day from OZ Dale !

What engine are you running ? ....... &

What Diameter & Pitch (& Model number etc) Prince prop did you get ?

What do you climb out at ? (speed & VSI reading)

(2800 sounds a tad high - ....... but not for an 0-235 yes ?... we used
to run one)

We bought the wooden Sensenich 76 X 60 that Wayne pointed out to us all
- on E-Bay a while back .... it's a GREAT Cruise prop .... but it's a
bitt too much prop on take off - we only get 2250 - 2300 RPM on climbout
.... pity it's a great prop otherwise & in great condition too !

Thanks !

WALTER KLATT

Post by WALTER KLATT » Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:02 am

Surprised you couldn't get more than 2600 with your 160 hp with the 74X56 Sensenich. I think Bruce G. spins higher with the 150 hp version using that same prop. I use the 74X54 and get 2500 static and 2550 on climb out. It tops out at about 2720 straight and level, again with 150 hp.

I forgot where you are located, Dale, is it BC interior? If so, we should meet up some time next summer. That sounds like an interesting prop, and you should get some good performance with those RPMs, especially top speed.

Next summer, I might try Wayne's trick and let a few more bugs accumulate on the prop and see what that does.

Rebel 295RT
Rick,
I have a lycoming 0-320, 160hp.
The prop is a 74-42, but because of the shape, it changes pitch
(almost> constant speed).
The rpm remains 2500rpm from static to about 80mph.
I have not recorded rate of climb numbers yet.

G'day from OZ Dale !

What engine are you running ? ....... &

What Diameter & Pitch (& Model number etc) Prince prop did you
get ?
What do you climb out at ? (speed & VSI reading)

(2800 sounds a tad high - ....... but not for an 0-235 yes
?... we used
to run one)

We bought the wooden Sensenich 76 X 60 that Wayne pointed out
to us all
- on E-Bay a while back .... it's a GREAT Cruise prop .... but
it's a
bitt too much prop on take off - we only get 2250 - 2300 RPM
on climbout
.... pity it's a great prop otherwise & in great condition
too !
Thanks !

Rebel men,

Last year I replaced my Sensenich prop with a Prince prop
which out
performed the Sensenich prop in all areas, plus it is 20
plus pounds
ligher.

I had Prince prop re-pitch my prop to increase my static rpm to
2500rpm
which did not help. Prince prop then made me a new prop
which now
gives me
2500 static rpm and 2800 rpm (full power) in level flight,
at no cost
to me
other than shipp;ing.

The increase in performance is great.
Thanks again to Lonnie Prince Propeller Company

I was going to re pitch my 74x56 Sensenich to a 74x54 like Waters, because I
didn't see Walter suffer any speed penalty flying with me last year. But his
rate of climb was better than mine...same 0320 150 HP. Maybe I should
consider the Prince Prop. I wonder how the carbon fiber will stand up on a float
plane?

Thanks Dale !

The wooden prop we bought on E-Bay is a Sensenich 76 X 60 .... and
we cruise at 2500 RPM @ 105 KNOTS (120ish MPH) which is fantastic ......
but our climb out is a bit dissapointing ..... around 1000 FPM , ...
(sooped up (but tired) IO-320 )
But, seeing as how the Rebel has climbout / short field to burn - it
doesn't r...e...a....l...l...y... worry us THAT much ! :o)

Rick

Rick,
I failed to mention, the sensenich prop replaced, was a 74-56 which had
a
static rpm of 2400rpm and 2600rpm with full throttle, level flight,
1500msl
(115mph indicated.)

My Rebel is on amphibious floats.

bransom

While going home from work last night and thinking about the Prince prop
improvement in climb rate, I recalled reading a past EAA thing about an RV-4
guy breaking a record that included climb rate performance. In that article,
the RV guy figured he would gain 3 fpm climb rate for every pound he could
eliminate from the airplane (and/or himself). So, not to take anything away
from the Prince prop's overall design -- in fact it is just another
compliment -- if it is say 22 lbs less than a Sensenich, 22 * 3fpm would
account for a good portion of the improved climb rate! I guess I was just
amusing myself with another example of the importance of low weight.

BTW, I googled for the article in case you're interested: <a
