Al,

I would reconsider the ceramic coating. Mine began to crack and peel
almost
immediately. It now resembles a dry lake bed!

Bruce,
Thanks for the input, I'm thinking the Satin is a better choice. They do
give a 3 year warrantee but not if you exceed the temp limit.

When I purchased my 0320 with 125 hours the guy threw in a new Stainless
cross over exhaust (never used) that had a ceramic type coating originally
done
for a tight cowled Glasair. I don't know who did the work but after a few
hours
it began to crack and peel.

Maybe it was the Chromex, Performance Coating advertise is good to 1300*
and
not the Satin they say is good to 2000* F. In any case your exhaust on a
Lycoming can easily reach temps of 1550* and higher depending on how you
lean.
You should find out before you sent them your exhaust. Ask for a Guaranty
or
something.

Bob Patterson

exhaust coating

Post by Bob Patterson » Sat Feb 18, 2012 8:52 am

Not sure, but it sounds like this coating Bruce is talking
about is on the outside.... The local (Peterborough) fellow who does
a lot of ceramic coating on (mostly automotive) exhaust pipes
puts it on the INSIDE, where it protects the tubing as well.

This would make it hard to tell if it was cracking, of
course, but it apparently works well.
