[AVIS-NOTICE] Re: [AVIS-NOTICE] zinchromate

Post by Jean Poirier » Sat Feb 18, 2012 8:52 am

I feel so inexperienced that it is "bizarre" feeling to have a questi
on
directed to me... Dave. If I have some doubt I will probably use som
e "oil
protection" for corrosion but I don't feel happy to "butter" with a o
ily
product a brand new airplane...
So after talk to many people about wet or dry, epoxy or plain zinc ch
romate
I found my way... I really not pretend of any special knowledge... I
do as
a Sico Industrial paint distributor have some industrial application
experience (nothing in aircraft).

At beginning, I was using the polyfiber epoxy primer in the mating su
rface
and in the place that will not not be reachable after riveted (ex. un
der
aileron skin), paint brush and wet assy. If you "move" a rib from
left to
right after everythings dry or iyou make another hole, primer tend to
"crack" and if you remove small bure beetwen parts... May be It is
just
because I have a lack of experience in the assembly process... anyw
ay here
my "new" way to do it...

1-Scotchbrite and good quality lacquer thinner, dry with Scottowel
2-Prime with a wonderful "Self-etching primer Pro Form PF-654 (spray
can)
every surfaces that will not be cover by final color
3-Let dry (2-3 hours ready to recover)
4-Brush Polyfiber epoxy primer on mating surafce and assmble wet.
5-Dip all rivets in epoxy primer

At minimum if something happen you always still have the etching prim
er.
All surfaces are protected. When the airplane will be ready for fina
l paint
(2-3-4-5 years?!?!?!?!?!), I plan to use the Sico Aviation Epoxy Prim
er and
Acrythane top coat(which is a polyurethan) developped exclusively for
aircrafts!

Again I really not pretend to have "the" method or teach you anything
better
than someone else method, it is just what I do.

Have a good day

Giday, Jean. For the benefit of others that don't speak French, would
you be
kind enough to provide
a translation? I think you posted this info a few months ago and it w
as
valuable and therefore I saved
it in a folder which just got deleted by an inept computer guru at a
local
shop. The translation might
also benefit some others who only speak English that may have missed
your
earlier post. Thanks.
(Merci).
